The negadelphian mindset that has broken out over the last 10 years or so has me rarely posting here. When the team has won and the naysayers have nothing much to criticize, it sure gets quiet in here. I spend my time elsewhere when the pathetic posts start up. It won't be long before I just say, "Seravalli it" and move on for good. - Flyskippy
I hear ya skip. It's amazing isn't it...? You trade the franchise players for kids, the fans accept that they are kids and it will take time, then the second the team shows promise NOW it's expected and anything less is unacceptable. Such is life.
The Flyers are in great shape moving forward with these kids, and that pains me to say. These 2 teams are going to have some memorable battles over the next decade. |

He's not one to make a set up pass with his stick, so why not his skate? Risky move on his part as you pointed out. |

Richards had the kind of game that earned him that 12 year deal with the Flyers. |

I only saw the 3rd but LA looked like they wanted it more. Kind of like the second half of another game I watched tonight. |

Some folks just like to complain. Richards was my favorite player. I was bummed when he got traded, same with Carter. But at the time, I felt they made fair trades. When they parlayed that 8th pick into a kid like Couturier, I was ecstatic.
But I also know that being a teenager or in your early twenties means there will be growing pains. |

Yeah, he was a beast tonight. Much as I sometimes miss Richie, I love having Schenn and Simmer around. |

Yep. Pretty much what I did, watched the tail end. I don't even know why I'm still up...massaging my inner Canadian and watching Trailer Park Boys on HBO |

Still can't believe Couturier was there at #8. He was the consensus #1 earlier that year. You made out like bandits in that trade. |

It's the Liquor Day movie, where they rob the bank and Ricky leaves Lahey to move in with Julian |

Couturier started off slow, had that bout with mono, which hurt his stock a bit.
I think another thing that hurt was being the number one prospect so early in the game. Guys who are that highly scouted, through no fault of their own, tend to cause scouts to start looking even more closely at them.
So he starts slow, they pick apart his skating and he drops. I remember the draft, I believe it was me, Butsy, Skippy and OB here and on twitter and we were all thinking Dougie Hamilton, because we were sure Couts would be gone by 8.
I figured the Isles would take him-he'd be the perfect number two guy behind Tavares-, then came Ottawa. When Ottawa passed, I was sure that the Jets would jump on him...
The Flyers were running to the stage as soon as Winnipeg announced Scheifele's name. The guys I was chatting with were immediately all saying, wait, Couturier is still there?!?!? |

I've said it numerous times, the Isles are going to regret passing on him for Strome. It's like everyone threw 3 years of scouting reports out the window and drafted based on the 2nd half of the season in their draft year. |

That does happen, teams outsmart themselves.
Same thing happened to Jake Voracek in his draft year. He was in the mix as one of the top 2 or 3 and he struggled and he fell to 6th. |

In five years, Flyers fans will be praising Paul Holmgren from the highest mountain tops for the trade with Columbus.
