It was a very bad missed call. But so was the non-icing that led to a goal for the Pens. Two missed calls, both of which led to goals, no advantage to either team from the poor officiating. - BringBack25

He was about a stride and a half over the line before the puck hit the blue line, but the fact that the Pens just rolled over made all the difference in the final outcome.
The refs didn't affect the outcome of this game. They rarely do. It's just an excuse. - nhindian
I give you credit cuz I know if this game went the other way we'd have another hundred pages in here of ref complaints |

I thought the reffing was ... acceptable. It wasn't bad. The icing was clearly waved off (as seen in the TSN replays), but the crowd must've deafened Coburn to hearing it. It wasn't like the refs said it was icing and then decided not to call it.
It comes down to the Flyers capitalizing on the PP and the Pens going 0-3 on it. - nhindian
Yes, that's exactly what happened. It should have been icing, and the trailing official still had his arm up. I'm sure the crowd noise made it hard for Coburn to hear, but the issue is it never should have been waived off to begin with. It was a bad call imo. Same as the missed offside. Sometimes that's the way it goes. Gotta move on.
But you're right, I don't think either one decided the game. Hopefully whoever refs game two will be better. |

Ha, maybe if the Pens were only up a goal. But to blow a 3 goal lead is completely unacceptable and can never be blamed on reffing.
My one biased comment: I like how the attitude towards Bryz and Briere changed so drastically over 1 period |

It's pretty common for a linesman to signal icing and then wave it off once the play develops. |

I think you nailed it. No call was worse then the other because the fact of the matter is, the result was the same. It led to a goal against both teams. |

With good reason. It was a bad miss. No doubt about it. Pens fans have every right to be upset about it. But I don't thing you can blame the loss on it (not that I have seen any of them doing so, just making a point). |

I can only imagine what the attitude was like in here during the game. As for Bryz I've been totally behind him all the way from day 1, Briere that guy's washed up |

Most Philly fans are bipolar. We either think everything is sunshine and pretty girls or jump-off-the-bridge time.
And it can change from one moment to the next.

Disagree. One was a blown call, while the other was waved off officially.
But that's the ebb and flow of human referees. |

true, but the back ice linesman had his arm up, then the near ice linesman waived it off on the opposite side of the ice well behind coburn who certainly couldn't see him, and it seems he didn't hear him because he played it like an icing call was up for grabs. |
