there always has to be a scapegoat!
- MJL

I thought Lilja did a nice job. His partner on the other hand was terrible in that first period.

The thing is. Grossman took and absolute beating that period. So did Briere and they were going hard after Giroux.

The pens have their targets and its evident. The Flyers are playing soft right now. Jagr looking slow.

why don't the flyers have targets?

do i have to hear one more time about how the pens are targeting 8 since they know he's at a 100%?

know what else isn't 100%? somebody's eggshell skull. go get it.

This game is not going well so far, but the series is not over. All we have to do is get out of Pitt with a split. Even if don't come back tonight, we win on Friday and we're right where we need to be.

I think it is likely that the rookies (despite Lavy's contention that they were all ready for it) were a bit overwhelmed by the intensity of the playoffs. They should be better next game.

Step away from the ledge people. Actually, nevermind - go ahead and jump. You'll feel better.

- BringBack25

It's ridiculous the panic and overreactions. It was a bad period. But a period doesn't make a series.

I thought Schenn was the best flyer on the ice. A couple of beauty hits and heads up on the puck.

He's not a scapegoat. They were all bad IMO, save a shift from Schenn and Talbot.

The entire team can't be benched. Lilja was atrocious that period.

I would not mind seeing Kubina next game. Big, physical guy, unless he is hurt

That was my biggest fear heading into this series. People who don't know any better think the Pens are this fancy skill team, when in fact they are one of the grittiest in the league.
- rockychocbill

They are a hard working gritty team.

People hate to hear it, because they "do a lot of good things", but the this team in generally is very inconsistent and lacking in the physicality and grit department.

i'm not surprised. not surprised at all.
- hammarby31

Me either. It's only one period, no sense in panicking yet. But that is as non competitive a period as you will ever see. Can't believe after all the garbage falling behind 2-0 almost every game, they come out and lay an egg.

The third goal was a crusher. Last minute of a period, and a soft goal to boot.

Crosby made Lilja look silly coming up the ice. That pairing was awful all around.

Yep. My fear is we have forwards that just do not ever play a physical game (Jagr, for example). He's passed up chances to lay the body on Pitt defenders several times already. Hartnell can't do it all for that line. Jagr and Giroux have to step up physically. Giroux has at least shown an inclination to do that at times. Jagr, not so much. That line is getting killed out there.

Smack dead right on as usual. The flyers could easily turn this game around and still win it tonight. The next goal will be huge and Bryz will need to stone them the rest of the way.

If they do. They arent going after them.

The pens got off very easy in that department.

yep, it's only one period of one game.

it sucks, but I'm not giving up this series based on just 20 minutes of play. the Flyers have come back too many times to do that.

The team is down 3-0. Its not an over-reaction. That was a (frank)ing awful period. Saying that is not an over-reaction.

It's a long series, good lord people. No surprise of the strong start for pens. I am a surprised about the flatness the flyers started out with.

Then again the 4 major players for philly in this series imo were Grossmann, G, Bryz, and Danny. All of whom are coming off atleast 1 game off and injury. Gonna take a period to get it going during the regular season, why would we expect it to be different because its the playoffs?

The refs thing right now is an absolute excuse.

The refs letting the guys play should help the Flyers not hurt them. They werent going to beat this team on talent, they were going to do it with physicality and hard work.

They are getting manhandled.

- flyer_nutter

There are two (frank)ing periods left in this game. Did anyone not think that the Pens would come out super amped for game one in their own building? Flyers didn't weather that storm well at all, but they have two (frank)ing periods to right the ship. Stranger things have happened...in boston...in 2010 for example. Come out with some (frank)ing jam Philly. Otherwise I gotta read all the crap on my FB page from a buddy who is a Pens fan and had to change his underwear after that period because he was so giddy.
