Oh no. I didnt mean because hes not playing in game one he wont be re-signed. I just think the Flyers go in another direction in the offseason rather than bringing back Kubina.
- stveshdy

I gotcha now. I thought Kubina looked good early and would have resigned him or the right price. If there are better options I'd certainly like to check them out first.

If I remember correctly it was listed as an upper body injury.. If thats the case, it more than likely makes him pretty ineffective considering his best attribute is his ability to out muscle guys.
- jak521

I'm not really questioning whether the player is hurt/injured. He obviously hasnt played well and therefore makes it easier to go with Lilja whos been better. I just dont think the Flyers are going to re-sign Kubina in the offseason. IMO, I think they go in a different direction.

Dont disagree. However we dont know how serious the injury is. He has been practicing and skating so it makes me wonder just how bad hes hurt. Just assuming thats all.
- stveshdy

If it is indeed true that he is out of the lineup tonight. I think that's a pretty good indicator of his current physical condition.

I was talking with a friend of Prongers who was at our playoff pool last night and apparently he's better but still not good. He actaully is wearing glasses now. His doctor told him his vision went from a 36 year old to a 63 year old overnight.

He wants to play but wont risk it affecting his health any further than it already has thus far.

- Manitobakid

I thought the same about Crosby, but he came back. Obviously Prongers age is a much bigger factor, but who knows. If he can't play I'd love to see him behind the bench in some role down the road.

Did he play prior to that as well? Or was that his first game back off of an injury?

Honestly I really couldnt remember if he did or not. I suppose that MAB and Lilja will be paired together tonight?

He has played 10 games since coming back from the injury.

Yes he was really struggling and didn't look like everything was working for him.

I agree, I thought his play really started to slip the last 5 or so games.

Injuries to the back end for Philly could be the biggest story line of the series. I can't imagine anyone feels great about the Lilja/ MAB pairing. Not complaining. Just pointing out that it is the biggest question mark in my mind. Over the story lines of the youthful inexperience and Bryz.

Pavel Kubina is set to begin the opening round of the playoffs as a spectator in the press box. He has skated on the team's extra pairing all week in practice and the Flyers are expected to go with rookie defenseman Marc-Andre Bourdon in Wednesday's contest versus Pittsburgh. Kubina has recorded four helpers, 15 penalty minutes and a minus-3 rating in 17 matches with Philadelphia since being acquired from Tampa Bay.

Thanks Bill,

Do you know if Bryzis on the ice at practice? In your opinion what are the chances they resign Kubina now?

- coffee junkie

Bryz eventually came out briefly, so looks like he's a go.

Kubina would have to take a huge paycut to stay in Philly (but he's in line for a paycut anywhere he'd go in NHL given his age, mounting health issues and declining effectiveness).

I dont think he is a good fit here next year... unless he signs on at a Lilja like contract.

I don't think he's a healthy player. Took treatment a lot and has not gotten his game back at all since the most recent injury.
- bmeltzer

that's what I'm figuring and it has me concerned.

I agree. I think he will get more than Lilja however.

Ive been out of the loop today. Have there been rumblings that Bryz wouldn't be playing tonight? (I know he is, but just asking)

Just rumblings, after Bill observed twenty minutes in that he hadn't joined the morning skate.

False alarm....

I wouldn't have a problem with bringing him back though if he does take a "huge" paycut....he still can be effective. At a cheap price, why not?

HAHA.....

I was wondering when I would hear from a disgruntled BUF fan. Since we pretty much ended a great late season comeback attempt. I send serious understanding good vibes your way. Rough way to end it. Good news is your team was the clear winner at the trade deadline.
