he has been making bad plays with the puck, turning it over or playing hot potato with it.

The speculation is he is playing with an injury that is nagging him more then he is letting on.

I do agree a contract with the Flyers next season hinges on his PO performance.

I dont think Kubina will be back. The Flyers traded away picks for him and he wont even be in the lineup for game 1 of the playoffs.

4-2 Philly with an empty netter by Cooter.

Double stamp, monkey fist lock.

Why the hell isn't Kubina playing?

- coffee junkie

He's really struggled in his games since the most recent injury. Have a feeling he was still trying to play at far less than 100 percent, because he's a better player than that.

Who knows.

My thought was, if he has a solid playoff and it comes out that he was playing through and injury, then I could see the Flyers looking at wanting to keep him.

Of course, none of that is something I care to dig into now. Playoff hockey is here and the moves to be made after the season is over is when I will be more interested in speaking about it.

This should be one hell of a series.

I don't think he's a healthy player. Took treatment a lot and has not gotten his game back at all since the most recent injury.

Hope it's a great series and hope no one on either side gets hurt. Of course, Lets Go Pens!

Thanks Bill,

Do you know if Bryzis on the ice at practice? In your opinion what are the chances they resign Kubina now?

I don't think you can make that assumption until we find out whether it's injury related or not.

If Bryz doesn't play tonight, I'll blame the officiating.

I dont know the Flyers have Kubina in their plans after the season is over. Injuries or not most players who are skating and are veterans find a way to play through it and dont get scratched game one of the playoffs, IMO.

Cheers! No injuries would be a wonderful outcome. You have to think with the "there will be blood" comment from Hartnell that PENS fans (and all NHL fans for that matter) are holding their collective breathe for the health of Crosby.

I really hope this goes the distance in 7 or the Flyers clean it up earlier.

FWIW, Watson told me they'd resign Grossman for sure, probably Kubina, and that Pronger will try and come back. Take it for what it's worth. I'm just glad as hell they locked up Grossmann.

I dont see the Flyers signing Kubina after the season unless he is going to take a major pay cut.

Or the Flyers just have the depth to allow him to rest up for what will probably be a long series and hopefully, a long playoff run.

Why not? Carle may walk, there goes a veteran defenseman right there. Add Kubina and what do you have left?

as am I, he has settled the defense down with his play in the d-zone.

I almost feel like Bill undersold him to us.

If you want to spin it that way, then yes. Even if he rests theres no guarentee he will be healthy or play at a high level.

I understand that. I have no idea why he's out, I just think its unfair to say he will not be resigned because he isn't in for game 1 when it could be injury related.

In my opinion the nature and type of injury needs to be considered. I don't care how much will power, ability to ignore pain, courage, or whatever other adjective you want to use. Some injuries are debilitating enough to decrease a player's ability to play at a level needed to keep them in the lineup, over a lesser player who is not injured. And therefore able to play a stronger game.

Money will be an issue like it is every single year. Need to sign Voracek and possible Jagr again.

Oh no. I didnt mean because hes not playing in game one he wont be re-signed. I just think the Flyers go in another direction in the offseason rather than bringing back Kubina.

Dont disagree. However we dont know how serious the injury is. He has been practicing and skating so it makes me wonder just how bad hes hurt. Just assuming thats all.

I was talking with a friend of Prongers who was at our playoff pool last night and apparently he's better but still not good. He actaully is wearing glasses now. His doctor told him his vision went from a 36 year old to a 63 year old overnight.

He wants to play but wont risk it affecting his health any further than it already has thus far.

If I remember correctly it was listed as an upper body injury.. If thats the case, it more than likely makes him pretty ineffective considering his best attribute is his ability to out muscle guys.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Everyone is playing hurt right now. But playing injured is a different ballgame.
