Nah... I'd look to move MPS and maybe next years 1st for a shot at a high end blueliner. - Reveen
Not sure about MPS but definitely on board to trade next years 1st. Best way to get some quality back and send a message to the team/fanbase they aren't okay with losing anymore |

you do realize Detroit sucked from when howe left till they drafted Yserman. no i would rather rebuild Edmonton's way. - longbottom
Those were different times. This is an entirely different league than it was before 1982 and teams generally shouldn't suck for long periods of time. |

Contenders or not, it's not the "proper" way. Again, I'm not throwing the word "tank" out there, but if things were managed correctly, teams wouldn't need to be basement dwellers several straight years to become contenders. Tell that today's other contenders... i.e. Detroit, Philly, Rangers, etc. - Gmcc24
The Oilers have been fortunate in the past few drafts. The players taken first overall made the team and didn't require development in the AHL. If you notice they are developing other players in OKC.
The Oilers are developing just fine and are doing so with the cards they've been dealt. I really don't see what you're suggesting is wrong with the way they are proceeding. |

i laugh at the sabres who many buff fans said they were going to challenge boston for the division and be one of the faves to make the ECF and SCF and well missing the playoffs - dmarsden2988
Most analysts took them to challenge boston before the season started. Never did I think we were contenders. Most fans thought the same. You take a few peoples comments and take it as a fan wide proclamation that we were going to be the best. |

And your pt is??? outside of Detroit the others have won what exactly???? - saskoil21
People suck at reading between the lines. My point was that there are teams who are consistently in the playoffs without having top 10 picks. Someone stated that being poopastic on a yearly basis and getting lottery picks is the "proper" way to re-build but I simply begged to differ. |

Scoring shouldn't be an issue for the oilers. This offseason they should get a soild back up, to put some pressure on dubnyk. Then get some veteran D and some size and BOOM. There ya go |

I didn't say there was anything wrong with the way they're proceeding but someone suggested that it was the "proper" way to re-build and that's where I disagree. I dunno, I think most fans would want to see their team be contenders yearly while also drafting great players even though they're not top 10 picks. |

That's not an absolute. Different players develop at different speeds. The Wings didn't use magic they were surprised as much as anyone with how some of their late round picks developed. Had they not been so fortunate the story might be quit different.
With the exception of the Red Wings the championship teams have all sucked for a period of time before winning.

Agreed! Let PRV play in the AHL next season. He's big, has a great attitude, and is still on his entry level deal for another season. What's the point in trading this asset when we can sign a UFA defender.
I think the Oilers lock up a big name in the UFA market this off-season. Probably not Suter, but one of Wideman, Stuart, Kuba, Jackman, or Carle would look great in an Oilers uniform. We may have to overpay a little, but if it was on a short term deal (max 3 years) I'd be all for it.
I'd absolutely be in favour of trading next years first pick for an asset. |
