The picture was worth it, no prob.
One gripe for the Pens here. They had better not use the 5 forward PP unit. Letang needs to be out there at all costs on the 1st unit. |

Crosby lottery was weighted based on previous results, the irritating part is the claims of a decade of losing/tanking on purpose. Completely untrue. Every franchise goes through a rough patch.
But the Mario one......yeah, no defense on that one. They went down worse than a bad pro wrestler. - ryman1566
I wish the people that claim we "tanked" would actually take the time to do the research into what was going on with the team at that time. Terrible ownership, cutting of salary and bankruptcy. |

I am pretty confident they won't. Letang will be there and maybe Nisk (if available) or Martin on the second unit.
Anyone thinking Bylsma was screwing with the lines so much to keep other teams off balance of what to plan for? I know the idea is a bit out there but Lavy can't possibly know what our lines are going to be because they were different every freaking shift practically.
Also, Crosby and Malkin need to get off the damn ice around halfway through the powerplay. |

You could make a Penguins Trilogy with that last line. |

People don't know the whole story. I've tried to explain it but it's futile. I explained how the previous ownership turned down a new building for a quick ten mil in cash. Previous ownership sold all rights to parking and concessions for cash. Howard Baldwin was a fraud when it came to business.
I've explained how Mario paid back every penny of debt coming out of bankruptcy.....that's completely unheard of these days. Most companies use bankruptcy to get out of debt and break contracts, but Mario and partners did the right thing and paid 100% on the dollar. Furthermore, he continued to honor the bad concession/parking contracts....which was a major reason they had to sell off players. They were stuck in a bad building with no revenue other than ticket sales and you can only raise those prices so much.
Mario bought the team with the promise of politicians that they would help him get him a new building. When the politico's reneged, that's when it got ugly. Much more could be said, but haters want to hate. Be confident that you have one of the most honorable owners in sports and eff the haters. |

Well said Mike. It's easy to focus on only the negative when it suits your argument.

Their timing has been great... And I think you can take the "supposed" out of your Lemieux sentence lol... They outright tanked that season as it was getting closer to the end. The funny thing is, the Pens get slammed for it, but New Jersey only ended up with one more win than the Pens. So, they tanked, just not as effectively. - rival22
If I am correct, the last game of the season was PIT vs NJ for last place and the Devils won 5-3. Thus giving the Penguins the #1 pick. |

I think most of the hate comes from the fact that the hockey media spotlights this team alot. take for instance us Pirate fans, we get sick of the Yankees and Red Sox. But our team sucks, and has. As a TV station, who are you gonna put on TV, The Yanks and Sox.....or the Pirates. Same with hockey, we see Detroit, Philly, NY, and us ALOT here in the states. People probably just get fatigued from it and start the hate whether it is based in facts or not. |

The Baldwin ownership was a disaster... If he didn't swindle Roger Marino out of a lot of money towards the end, the team would have been gone then, I think.
The repaying 100% of the debt thing is huge... Not only did it put the team in the good graces of companies that they have to deal with (vendors, sponsors, etc.), it allowed them to pay 100% of the deferred compensation to the players (including Mario). I think that helped at least early on with acquiring/re-signing players. I mean what agent would want to commit a player to a team who cheaped out on paying past players money that was owed to them. |
