I've never had to pay for anything dental related. I pay 7.00 per paycheck for dental insurance... I get my teeth cleaned once a year. I've had 2 cavities, and had 2 wisdom teeth removed... thats the extent of my dental work... I just find it curious that you cant get proper dental care in rural areas... I never heard of that.
- RooNosHockey

Parts of Eastern KY are very rural. They don't have access to dental services. There is an effort here at the University of Kentucky to get mobile dental service trucks (imagine an ambulance fitted for dental work) on the road to take the service where it needs to go. There are already a few of these on the road and dentists basically volunteer their time. The other part of the equation is that many people in eastern KY, smoke a lot, drink boatloads of mountain dew. Don't ask me why on the mountain dew...it is a local cultural thing or something, but dentists in KY have cited it, along with poverty, as a major reason behind dental hygiene issues in eastern KY.

EDIT: I am not going to get into the problems with meth and other drug abuse. Suffice it to say that while the stereotype may fit in certain regions of KY, you should understand some of the socio-economic reasons behind the issue, rather than just make potentially offensive off-hand comments about a whole state. My son is going to grow up telling people he is from Kentucky. He, for damn sure, is going to have all his teeth as well as good dental habits. He is also going to go about 6'5" 235 when he is grown up and I hope he levels the first person that makes a "Kentucky joke" when he tells them where he is from.

Is there any other way of winning the Cup? Is there such a thing as not earning it?

You are such a troll... read what I was responding to, not just to argue with me. God I'm tired of it.

Lexington Flyer said, "...poopty economic conditions out there leads to poor healthcare in those Appalachian communities". I thought he was saying they were too poor to afford dental care not that there aren't any dentists in rural areas.

If nobody can afford it, it proceeds to be that it's not easily available.

I brush and floss, like a good boy, but if I couldn't afford dental work I'd be missing a few teeth. After insurance it still cost me $800 for my last cap.
- Dkos

I love how some people think their own experience is either the norm or due to their own amazingness (I've only had two cavities, so anyone who's had more is just not trying hard enough). If you've had few cavities and no problems, good for you. I've had great dental care and great genes, I brush and I floss, but I've still had issues with broken or dying teeth. And if I didn't have a really good job, I'd have a lot fewer teeth in my head. Even with insurance (which pays for only 1/2 of what a crown costs). In October I found out I needed a crown, we managed to nurse the tooth into 2012 so I could get the crown with the money planned into my HCRA so it was pretax dollars. Not always an option. And $750. A lot for anyone in the 99%.

Rural areas tend to be underserved medically and dentally because there are not enough people with the resources to pay, therefore the areas cannot support sufficient medical and dental practices.

All good points. It also not exactly a news flash that a lot of people are out of work. And in being out of work, can't afford health care.

I'm coming in at the tail-end of this conversation. All I'm saying is that dental work is expensive. I have dental insurance and it's still expensive. If you don't have any money...it's hard to get dental work done.
- Dkos

This is very true. Even with the insurance the deductibles are ommf. When I busted my tooth few years back (hadn't skated for over 10 years so yes it was ice skating related) still ran me like 600 bucks out of pocket to get the root canal and crown done.

National Health Care does not cover dental. And it has not been the norm for employers to offer dental insurance.

I never made a joke about kentucky, and you can read back... you said something about the dental problems, and I said...Brush. It was a back/forth joke, not a joke about kentucky...

I might have missed this, but how does someone get banned for 2 weeks for posting a video of Crosby getting hit? 2 weeks?

If the Flyers can score more goals than the Pens, then they will win the series.

Where was it posted?

If someone were to come into this thread to post a video of a Flyer being hit just to rile up the masses, that's trolling. So I'm guessing this post was in the Pens thread? And thus was trolling?
