Any chance of Staal being traded from Pitt?
- Chipd

Would you trade him?

Not until contracts become an issue.
- snowstorm077

Stall would be a great 3rd option! I think he hates being under the shadow of the crybaby and Melkin. He's physical and plays great in al 3 zones, and not affraid to hit.

If the price was right.

He's after 12-13, at $4MM he's due a raise (maybe $5.5MM). Sullivan's contract is up, he's earned a raise. Same with Niskanen and Tangradi. Plus you need a backup goalie.

I just don't know that either will be available...
The Avs prov find someone (Toronto?) to take Stastny off their hands & keep O'reilly & Duchesne
And I'm guessing the sharks would try n move Thornton or Marleau (bc of age & salary) before pavelski (who's easily my top choice to bring in at center, reminds me A LOT of drury)

It could even be another "Hodgson"
That's why I threw out using Roy to trade up to get Galchenyuk
It'd prob be better for him to play 1 more year in juniors to get confidence back in his knee & develop a little more...
But the kid has the talent to make the jump right away
His health shouldn't be an issue, as he was reportedly ready to come back at the end of last season, but stayed out as precaution

A lot of ppl keep saying we NEED a "#1" center...
Well, here's our chance to (likely) draft one
We should've traded up last year for couturier...
Let's not make the same mistake again!

- jdfitz77

not a fan of the draft.
move picks & give me a proven center who can play in Oct 2012.

So your saying the same team we have this year is good enough for next year?
- Chipd

Where did I say that?!
You said we couldn't afford to keep Roy as our 3rd line center
I simply showed that we could EASILY afford him

And when healthy, our team this year was at a pace for something like 112pts
So to answer your question,
No... I don't think this years team was good enough
But I also don't think we're that far off from being a legit contender

Can u please make some sense with your posts if u are going to comment on mine?
If your point is we need to do better than Roy,
Then say THAT, don't say we can't afford him
I honestly can't tell what it is you are trying to say

I hear ya,
But it's prob A LOT easier to trade up to #5 then it is to get a "pavelski" or "O'reilly"

Thats what I figure is the only move to make. Deal your picks, or most of them for the #1 centre.

Yeah we have a few million for next year but in 13-14 we have Hodgson to resign, RR and Leo will be up, so we'll have to spend on 2 top 4 D and a possible 1B Center.

Unless you think, Myers, Ehrhoff, Sulzer and McNabb are your top 4 D.3

When the team was healthy... yeah look how long that lasted, 2 guys went down in the end and they fell apart.

Roy is a cancer, his interview today showed that 100%. Anyone who can't see that just hates Lindy to much to be objective.

i agree, but only if we bring in someone to take tropp's place on the "3rd line" of the past 10 games. and it cannot be gerbe. it needs to be another strong RW preferably, so vanek can go back to his natural left side.

dustin brown gets thrown around a lot on this site, and for good reason. he would be a fantastic addition and another guy that is not afraid of the physical play. if brown was brought in and roy or leino was flipped for another guy who plays physical (clowe?), that would be 3 guys in the top 9 who play with an edge, something this team really lacks.

- adubs14

Yeah,
Upgrading Tropp's spot with a "brown" type would be great
And if we could somehow get rid of leino (doubtful) someone like Ott from Dallas would fit nicely on a 3rd line with Roy & Pommer

We have a lot of ammo to make trades,
So these type of moves are a possibility

I went to the Pens/Sabres game a few weeks ago. The guy just does all the little things sooo well that don't show up on the stat sheet but make your team better.

I think a case involving a high draft pick can be made to more Stall. See my edited post from above on why.

That will depend on how bad a team wants a top pick-

Another sport, but look at what the Rams got from WSH for their #2.

Honestly if they got him, i'd make him A the first year and C if he resigned.

Martin and Michalek are expendable with Despres and Morrow coming up. If players like Sullivan want more money, Shero will just let those kind of guys walk and find the next veteran who wants to play with three stud centers.

What good does a high draft pick do the Penguins? So they can try and draft somebody like Staal again? They already have him.

I'd say we draft Galchenyuk,
Center spot taken care of (and at a good cap#)

McNabb should be ready to take regehr's spot in the top4
The $$$ coming off the books from Regehr & Leopold should be more than enough to cover a small raise to McNabb & bring in another top4 Dman
Plus, the cap will prob go up a couple million a year each season like it always does

As far as health goes,
It's pretty unlikely we get hit like that again
And we have A LOT of depth coming up to help better cover us

I think it is equally likely that the guy is right and is saying what 20 other guys won't say about Ruff.

I do not know, because I am not privy to lockerroom discussions. I just don't think we can dismiss what Roy is saying because we don't like Roy personally.

Or maybe we can just keep Ruff another 14 years and see if things get better.

we shouldn't need to bring in any top 4 d men, we have a plethora of D prospects in the pipeline, also a good reason not to sign Sulzer

Mcnabb and Brennen will be ready next season
