Datsyuk is 1000000% tougher than the Sedins.
- robin_steele264

Define "toughness". Physical or mental? Because on the latter front I can agree with you, but as far as playing a "gritty" game?

And even mental toughness only came with time. Remember the President's Trophy winning Red Wings post-Yzerman pre-2008?

This isn't even close to funny.
- IronMaidnick

You're right. The oilers are so awful that a joke about them winning the Cup isn't funny even in the slightest.

I'd like their skill on my team, but not them.

I find them world class players, but we already have enough soft players on this team!

- IronMaidnick

Fair enough. The Red Wings to me exemplify an organisation who can win with 'soft' players by simply 'out-skilling' the opposition, but it's a very difficult model to follow... And even they have the Kronwalls and Franzens of the world to do their dirty work!

I would say Mentally, the guy is unreal, and he's smart with the puck, like he's so smooth the only person I would trust on the ice in a game 7 for the cup is him, or Kopitar, Getzlaf,

Flyers.

I can not wait to see the Canucks and Kings series. If the Canucks thought the Bruins were a gritty team I wonder how they will feel about LA.

Umm yeah, best player in the world. Not because of his grit, though. He's too busy being an elite two-way player to be mixing it up. Do you think he would have fought Marchand if he had face washed him? No, he would punished him by scoring a beauty goal the next shift.

That's the core difference between Datsyuk and the Sedins... Mental fortitude, experience and leadership skills. It's not his two fights per year that makes him the best player in the world.

Agreed. I would take the Sedins over 99% of the players of the league... Datsyuk is part of the 1%

I haven't watched the Wings this year, I haven't had the time, but if this is not descriptive of Franzen let's say... Holmstrom

Datsyuk is way grittier than you give him credit for, likely cause his out of this world skill stands out so much.

He he throws hits and plays a hard game, combined with that skill set, makes him about the hardest player to play against in the league.
