My only problem with that is it appears as though the coaching staff is asking him to improve in areas they refuse to hold veteran players accountable for. The coaches want consistency. It would be nice if they showed some themselves.

The coaches want him to put as much effort into his defensive game as he puts into his offensive game. That's what he needs to focus on and forget how other guys are treated. Vets have earned a longer leash; it's like that in any sport.
Botttom line is he's the player and they are the coaches. If he wants to play, he needs to do what they've asked him to do. If he's not happy about it he can address it in the offseason. But don't cause waves in the locker room by whining and acting like a spoiled little baby.
