Since long before "If You Can Play" it has been against the code of conduct to use homophobic slurs on this site. If you can post, you can post, but not if you can't control yourself.

That piece of garbage Cooke should have been kicked out of the league when he cowardly attacked Savard - end of story. The NHL just needs to remove the garbage from the league. Similarly, Bertuzzi should have been kicked out of the league when he ended Steve Moore's career.
Unfortunately, the NHL won't do anything - until of course a Penguins player has his career ended. You can bet the rules will change overnight if that happens. - TheMessiah94
I found it so bizarre that he crossed himself before taking his shoot out shot the other night.

Im an Orpik fan, and I have to say this was a bad decision by Brooks. He is a defenseman that hits a lot and I think most hockey fans would say he is a stand up player. IMO Brooks made his mind up he was gonna hit Stepan long before contact. When Stepan dekes to the inside Brooks wants to catch a piece of Stepan so he doesn't get burned only to knee Stepan. I really hope Stepan is ok, he is an exciting player and a huge bright spot for the Rags.
As for Torts comments, I think what happens on the ice should stay on the ice, and a coach should always be above comments like this. That being said, his comments are exactly why I love listening to his post game comments. A mic in his face is dynamite for the NY media .

Jan, Nice blog.
B276: Thanks for posting vintage fight night at the Garden. I forgot how big Troy Loney was out there. And believe me, we all wish we had Lange on TV.

Lemieux writes public letter threatening to sell team, excoriating league and gets off scot-free for his tantrum.

Looking forward to NHL's explanation for fining Tortorella 20K. Seems beyond weak. Has the league ever heard a Pens' telecast?

Does the NHL realize that by fining Tortorella for his comments, they basically proved his point? - evitageN
@NYP_Brooksie, The letter was written after the debacle on the Island on the night the Pens and Islanders didn't really play hockey. I would also add that Lemieux is an owner not a coach so he has liberties that a head coach does not.
@ChrisBottaNHL, yes Pens TV telecast are probably the worst homers in the league but they don't work for the league. I wish they would do something about the Pens telecast though
“Hockey is a tough, physical game, and it always should be. But what happened Friday night on Long Island wasn’t hockey. It was a travesty. It was painful to watch the game I love turn into a sideshow like that.
“The NHL had a chance to send a clear and strong message that those kinds of actions are unacceptable and embarrassing to the sport. It failed.
“We, as a league, must do a better job of protecting the integrity of the game and the safety of our players. We must make it clear that those kinds of actions will not be tolerated and will be met with meaningful disciplinary action.
“If the events relating to Friday night reflect the state of the league, I need to re-think whether I want to be a part of it.” - Mario_Lemeiux
I'm sure he is a little more brisk in his step today without that extra $20k weighing him down! - nhindian
that would be 50k up to this point in the season.. So if he is willing to donate that kinda of money(because it goes to various outlets like the players emergency fund, hockey fights cancer, if you can play you can play etc.) I'm pretty sure he's not going to back down.

exactly. orpik is known for his physicality, but also for his good clean hits. Orpik is not a dirty player whatsoever. im not saying it was accidental, and i think orpik should get a 1 or 2 game suspension. The game moves so fast that sometimes you just try to get in the way when you miss a hit and thats what orpik did, unfortunately he stuck out his leg and a suspension will hopefully keep him from doing it again. playing the game is much different than watching it, and anyone who has played for as long as i have can vouch for that.
Rupp (a player i really like) kneed staal and in no way did i find him as a dirty player, just a bad decision. for torts to go out and bash on the entire organization for a mistake that many have made is ridiculous. he could of handled it like the professional he is.
