Oh yes because a game misconduct is the sole determining factor of a clean play. No one has ever been suspended for a play that went unpenalized.

i think its funny too that after that hit most pens fans agreed that it was not dirty and completely accidental, rupp didnt stick his knee out right before the hit like orpik did

I want to start by saying that I'm bias. I don't like the Pens and I don't respect the organization in the same way that I respect other rivals. It could be because the Pens have been incredibly lucky to be draft players like Lemeiux, Jagr, Crosby, Malkin, Staal and Fleury, the last four of which were drafted in a four year period where the Pens drafted in the Top 2 four straight years. Or it could be because I don't respect the method by which they built their team -- i.e, being so atrociously bad as to be able to draft the aforesaid players. Or it could be that I perceive that, for whatever reason, the Pens seem to be the favorite son of the NHL.

So, I admit that perhaps I am not the most objective observer when it comes to that team. And I also admit that perhaps I have bought into the common wisdom about the Penguins, that they are entitled, hypocritical, and maybe even a little dirty. But I don't think that there is any question that was bush league dirty hit in garbage time, less than a week after the Pens took out another rival's player (although a clean hit) in garbage time. That type of behavior doesn't go unnoticed, and whether Rupps hit on Staal earlier in the year was clean or not, I think the Penguins record over the last few years when it comes over the line hits speaks for itself.

Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't your team have the exact same shot at Crosby? In 2005 the rangers were in the midst of non-playoff streak nearly twice what the pens went through. Your teams ineptitude from the late 90's til the mid 2000's was more embarrassing than the pens. If it weren't for the rangers ability to spend wildly to achieve mediocrity they would have been right with the pens in the basement. Guarantee had Craig Patrick had 70 million a year the pens wouldn't have missed 4 playoffs in a row. Let alone however many it was for the rangers. What was it 7? 8?

So let's not forget where your team was during our rebuild. You guys are far from Detroit.

when rupp hit staal, rupp's hands were on track to make contact with staal's shoulder. Staal did a little shimmy and their knees collided. With the orpik hit. Orpik sticks out his leg.

I honestly thought that Orpik would get a suspension. Not the entire first round as some Ranger fans wanted, but I thought he would get at least a couple games. I'm surprised he didn't.

the thing is, throughout that era of ineptitude, we were there every game, every step of the way.

You guys abandoned the Penguins after Jagr was dealt away and didn't return until you were hand delivered Crosby.

the only thing fans can control is loyalty, and you guys proved to be the least loyal fans in the league when times got tough

Much easier to sell out in a market of 18 million than it is in 2million. I'm sure there were plenty of people jumping off the wagon then. As a percentage it was probably similar.

Lets all move on now. What's done is done, if we meet later in the playoffs however I'm sure Orpik will be a target, especially late in a similiar one sided game.

If you switched teams the Penguin fans would be no where to be see even if they finished in 1st like we did this year, they only have enough hockey IQ for lottery picks, can't wait for their season to end.

Yes, the Rangers had the same exact shot at Crosby. But, the ping pong balls bounced the Penguins way and, therefore, the Penguins were able to draft in the Top 2 picks four years in a row, during years where it was really, really good to have those picks. Crosby and Malkin are absolute studs, perhaps the two best players in the league, and the Penguins were fortunate enough in those years to be able to draft them. After being fortunate enough to tank for Mario Lemieux back in the 80s.

Many of the things you said were true. The Rangers were atrocious for 10 years. They made horrible free agents signings. They couldn't find a decent coach for the life of them. But, at the end of the day, there was never a time period where the Rangers weren't trying to win. They may have been inept, but they certaintly weren't mailing it in either. Whether its true or not, the perception of the Penguins is that they were smart enough to completely suck during years where it benefitted them to do so. Is that your fault as a Penguins fan? No. Would I apologize for it if I were you? Not a chance. But, I am sure you can understand why people don't have the warm and fuzzies for the Penguins, whether it be because they believe they are extraordinarly lucky at best, or intentionally tank at worst, to make their organization better.

Also let's not forget sucking for a couple years guarantees nothing. Look at the thrashers. And the blue jackets. Hell the best example is on long island. How many top 5-10 draft picks over 15 years and nothing to show for it but a permanently injured goalie zoned until the early 2020's.

I will grant you your point, so long as you grant me this one, it took no particular scouting prowess to draft Malkin and Crosby. Indeed, a mentally challenged midget hunchback could have had the GM reins of the Penguins when those picks were made, and it would have made a bit of difference. Maybe it's just your luck that drives me crazy.

Oh absolutely lucky. Of course. But it took some good management to trade mikael Samuelson to move up for fleury. But it also took plenty of good signings and trades to get where they are. There really isn't anyone they traded away or let walk that really looks bad right now.

I love how the Pens organisation and it's fans are all so called whiners. I can understand that the Rangers are not happy with the hit BUT I can remember a knee on knee hit by Rupp a few months ago on Staal. Very similar to what happened yesterday. Staal was out for at least 3 weeks with a knee injury.

No one in the organisation said a bad word about the Rangers. After the game Staal said about Rupp: "he is a good guy, I am sure he didn' mean to do it"

Yeah the Pens and their organisation are very classless. The hypocrisy here, unreal!!
