Zipay:

No disciplinary hearing has been scheduled for Orpik and it appears there won’t be, therefore, no suspension. I’m told that video of precisely this type of hit (defenseman stands up, forward moves around him, D instantly reacts with knee move) to general managers at their March meeting. The GMs agreed, with no dissent, that this was a major and game misconduct but not worthy of supplementary discipline. The Rangers said they hadn’t been contacted by the league, and Stepan was not available for interviews.

Reading that again, it hit me that it the language is almost contradictory. You are saying on the one that it deserves a major and a minor because it is likely a dirty play, yet no supplemental discipline is warranted. Way to go NHL, nothing like sending a mixed message.

One more thing, don't care if you a Rangers' fan and/or regular reader or a fan of another team, do not wish for someone to have an injury. That's completely unacceptable and beyond the pale of fair play, don't care how and why you did, I am requesting nicely that at least in this blog, that is avoided. Thank you.

I heard Chris Neil went into the boards heavily at practice today, didn't get up for awhile and his status is unknown.

and, I must admit, that made me smile a bit.

You might want to stop feeding the trolls. And always assume that your female moderator is not amused when the only thing you can think of to "insult" someone is to compare them with a woman.
- bodiva88

Am I the only one feeding them? You have a problem with fems but not rags. Ok, I see how it is around here.

Since you seem the most up in arms about this let me ask how you felt about Rupp on Staal early this year? We're you angry about he general state of player safety and mutual respect then? Or we're you trying to downplay the hit as an unfortunate incident?

I want to start by saying that I'm bias. I don't like the Pens and I don't respect the organization in the same way that I respect other rivals. It could be because the Pens have been incredibly lucky to be draft players like Lemeiux, Jagr, Crosby, Malkin, Staal and Fleury, the last four of which were drafted in a four year period where the Pens drafted in the Top 2 four straight years. Or it could be because I don't respect the method by which they built their team -- i.e, being so atrociously bad as to be able to draft the aforesaid players. Or it could be that I perceive that, for whatever reason, the Pens seem to be the favorite son of the NHL.

So, I admit that perhaps I am not the most objective observer when it comes to that team. And I also admit that perhaps I have bought into the common wisdom about the Penguins, that they are entitled, hypocritical, and maybe even a little dirty. But I don't think that there is any question that was bush league dirty hit in garbage time, less than a week after the Pens took out another rival's player (although a clean hit) in garbage time. That type of behavior doesn't go unnoticed, and whether Rupps hit on Staal earlier in the year was clean or not, I think the Penguins record over the last few years when it comes over the line hits speaks for itself.

except rupp went for the shoulder as the principle point of cnontact. and the fact the didn't recieve a game misconduct. nice try.

Oh yes because a game misconduct is the sole determining factor of a clean play. No one has ever been suspended for a play that went unpenalized.
