You might want to check with your buddy RawDog about the fight as even HE admits that engelland initiated the fight by throwing the first punches. The fact that you can't even see (or admit) that makes the rest of your post moot & irrelevant, not to mention discredited. - shonoff95
Just watched it again. They were pulling trying to get an arm free and a better hold on to eachother. At exactly 20 seconds simmonds winds up and throws a punch and thats when the fight turns from holding to fighting. No real punches thrown before that. You stopped glowing red a while ago and this entire board is glowing gold and making you look foolish. Simmonds pulled a bad card, got a beating for it. They will have many, many chances to fight again and im sure they will, get over it sir. And if you have ever been in a hockey scrum you know there is a big difference between holding each other and talking and throwing haymakers at each other. When you throw a wind up punch at someone it goes to a whole other level.

Engo knew what he was doing though, no discounting that. Either way, any Flyer fan who thinks we wouldnt want Engo to open Simmonds face up 1000x over is delusional. I hope his face doesnt heal until the playoffs are over because Engo opens him up in a clean fight every game.

yep they both knew what they were doing. You cant deny the first punch with bad intentions was thrown by simmonds. Yes it was followed by 5 from engo that actually connected but that dont change who took the altercation to that level in the first place.
You're saying that grabbing one of the leagues stars to drag him to the box and keeping him from getting jumped from behind is special treatment? If he wasn't penaltized i'd agree but they should protect the stars.

I think you are confusing stars getting preferential treatment vs Pens getting preferential treatment. It just so happens we have more stars than most teams. It is the way sports work. Look at the NFL and the Brady rule. Look at the NBA and foul calls against guys like Lebron and Kobe. Its not fair, but its how it works. - Rawdog9755
Ovechkin has been suspended for this type of hit because he has done it on more than one occasion. Malkin has done this since as well, and received nothing. The worst part of it is he skates away from the scrum.
Maybe everyone wouldn't be so hard on your team if your loud-mouthed owner wouldn't threaten to take his puck and go home whenever it happened to the Pens. If he truly wanted this type of crap out of the game he never would have re-signed Cooke, and had an internal fine for Bylsma for what happened in the final minutes against the Flyers last week.
I hope that another Flyer gets hurt on Saturday, just so we can replay this week again. It's been fun. I hope that a Penguins player hurts an opponent in every game they have left.
I also love how the Penguins are the whiners when they've been quiet on all the issues.
By the way, you trolls could learn some lessons from Bruins fan, I mean Asham obviously attempted to end Boychuck career, but they haven't stormed our board like the Westboro Baptists at a protest. - Ben37
Might have something to do with the fact that they were once again the cause of said "issues". Why would they whine when their player took another cheap shot on another player?

How many games did he miss? How many did Mitchell miss? ( rest of the season including playoffs)

Why? Because he played a line that has played together all season and Dany Briere decided that admiring his skate laces with 2 minutes left in a rivalry game was a good idea. It was a clean hit. Welcome to the NHL, if you can't handle it, take up Angry Birds.

Ovechkin got suspended after a long run of questionable hits that he got away with for years. If Malkin gets his comeuppance one of these days, then so be it.
Doesnt it say more that they kept Cooke and had him totally reform his game as an example of how it can be done?

How does that make them the whiners in the situation though? Isn't whining similar to pathetic pandering in the media because another team played dirty?
When a whiner is whining about another team being whiners...what does that make them?

I'm pretty sure he'll do it again, as he has his entire career. He's a hell of a hockey player, but as dirty as they come.

If he does it again, he is gone. I like the approach they took with him to set an example for others who walk the line and cross it too often. You can be a productive NHL player on a 3/4 line without intentionally being a buffoon and injuring people. Im not gonna say Cooke will never frank up again, but I hope he keeps up his solid play as displayed this season. He proved to himself and everybody else this year that he CAN do it.
