While some may agree with what he is saying, you can't behave like an infant after the game when you are a head coach. Tortorella should start holding his pressers in a sandbox.

Not to mention, I have heard Stepan isn't even seriously injured.

Aren't the Rangers the team that led the league in fighting majors?, didn't they have their little fiasco against the Devils? as on person mentioned, Rupp knees Staal?

so explain the whining.

and to the Flyers fans. I guess a clean hit to Danielle Briere is a "dirty" hit? give me a break, But Giroux can cross check the living crap out of someone and that's ok.

Can't wait to watch the Flyers and the Rangers lose in the first round. let the tears begin. Everyone make sure to buy stock in Cheese companies. There's going to be a lot of whining.

- sliprock65

I agree with the hypocrisy on the Rangers part after Rupp's hit on Staal.

However, what in the world are you talking about with Giroux "cross checking the living crap out of someone?!?!!?" Do you even WATCH the Flyers games? It's usually Giroux and/or Hartnell that are on the receiving end of having the "living crap" cross-checked out of them. Crosby and Malkin do it to Giroux every game...last game, Crosby did it 3 times after a faceoff and even knocked G's stick out of his hand while G did nothing against 87. (no penalty was called.) Malkin hit Giroux in the corner, then laid on top of him and hit him in the back of the head repeatedly while he was down on the ice & G didn't retaliate. (no penalty was called.) The game before that, Kunitz had Hartnell on the ice and laid on top of him while he drove his forearm into Hartsy's face and tried to put it through the ice. Hartnell had marks all over his face from it & didn't retaliate. (no penalty was called.) This is the kind of stuff that everyone else around the league sees happening with the Penguins and they get away with it...that's why people like Torts are saying the stuff that he said last night. Open your eyes.

This all is pathetic. The playoffs start next week, we should be discussing which team we think will win and hockey reasons why we feel that way. Instead everyone is having an elementary school fight about who whines more and who is a bigger wussy and who wears a skirt. It is embarrassing for all fans involved. Pens fans, Crosby whines and can be dirty, Orpik's hit was dirty, get over it. Flyers fans, Lavi whines, Briere whines, Schenn's hit was dirty, get over it. Rags fans, Torts whines, Stepan got a dirty hit, get over it. Every coach whines to the media, every player whines on the ice, every player slashes and whatever else, illegal hits happen every game, every player is tough or they wouldn't survive in this league. It's like no one can just enjoy the hockey and all the skill and grit that is on display this time of year, everyone has to prove that their team is more "classy". Everyone, Bylsma, Torts, Lavi, Crosby, Briere, Biron, Stepan, Orpik, Hartnell, etc., need to act like men and do their job without whining about it. Fans need to enjoy the game without trying to prove their team is tougher and classier. It makes everyone involved sound childish and pathetic. It is ruining the experience of watching the best game on earth.

Nice write up John. Pens don't get preferential treatment and thats all there is to it. There is no objective evidence to the contrary. Pens are gritty but any good team in hockey is to some extent. Stephan went to avoid the hit, clearly and they collided. It was unfortunate. Detroit, Philly, Rangers and all decent teams must be physical to win. In collision sports things can go wrong.

This however if you watch the video closely is not a suspendable offence. Other than Cooke, who has reformed himself, there is not one 'goon' on this team. Once Mario spoke out it made him a target to others both fans and people in the NHL. People feel if you speak out you should play like choir boys and say please and thank you and courtsey when you skate by the opponents bench.

Get real people. Sorry if Stephan is hurt but this is more overblown and hyped than it ever deserved. It's sad actually so many people have homer eyes and think they are being objective.

I hate the Rangers, but even I can see that hit by Orpik was dirty & cheap. WTF is with all the cheap shots by Penguin players lately? Vitale on Grossmann, Malkin & Crosby on Giroux, Engelland trying to fight Simmonds with stitches on his face, and now Orpik on Stepan...and that's just in the past week!

Besides my hate for the Rangers, I also hate Torts with a passion...but I have to admit that he's dead-on with his post-game comments. There's nothing to disagree with him on. I hate the guy for his antics but at least he speaks the truth. Meanwhile, Bylsma will probably just adjust his trendy reading glasses & say that Orpik's cheap shot was a hard hockey play, he didn't mean to do it, and it was an unfortunate result. Yep, that's what it was.

But yeah, obviously the Penguins are 1st class, top-tier, above-reproach angelic choir boys who never do anything wrong and are always the victims of other teams' actions. Yep, that's what we've learned this week.

- shonoff95

Uh, hey genius you do realize that even Briere said it was a CLEAN hit by Vitale don't you? He just WHINED saying that the hit was meant to hurt him so I guess every single clean check in hockey is meant to do that. Please try to use some objectivity instead of acting ignorant. Your comment about Simmonds was hysterical by the way. Hopefully, Bylsma told his players that they aren't allowed to touch him because he's got a boo boo.

The funny thing about Lavy and Torts going off is they act like they never dressed players like Shelley, Sestitio and Avery. Typical hypocrisy.

This 1000x. Furthermore, why do other fans bother to come in here chirping as if we are the ones calling the shots on the ice? If it makes them feel better then fine, but ultimately we are all just sitting on the couch watching the games.

lol. when a guy jumps into a melee, what does he expect is gonna happen? if crosby had stitches above his eye i highly doubt any of your players would lay off of him. if anything you would go after him even more with rabbit punches or gloves to the face etc. but ah well, its so difficult to talk to an irrational fan of a team that hasnt won anything in almost 40 years.
- pensfan44

if crosby was simply trying to pull a player out of a pile or off one of his teammates, then no...a fight does not ensue, genius. are you really this stupid??? ah well, guess you are.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. While I have respected Orpik in the past, I think he DID extend his right leg in the replay to catch Stepan. It may not have been in his mind to get him knee-on-knee and rather just stick out his leg to impede Stepan as he made a move to get around him, but that doesn't matter...it's still dirty and cheap IMO. Orpik wasn't trying to make a solid hit as it was out near the blueline...he was simply going to get beat and resorted to sticking out his leg as he was about to be embarassed by a nice move. Simple as that. I wonder how many more players the Penguins will take out & injure before something happens.
- shonoff95

Dont even know where to start with this mess of a comment. First off if stephan didnt see that hit coming last second and try to sidestep it it would have been a far worst hit imo. He got caught looking at the ice and tried to save himself, almost did. Your reasoning for orpik not trying to make a big hit because "it was out near the blueline" while funny makes zero sense. Have a look at some of his highlights, he make a ton of open ice hits so......ya, theres that. And if jumping out of the way trying to save yourself from a huge hit classifies as a nice move then you must be new to hockey sir.

Whiney-To complain or protest in a childish fashion. At what point during this past week have the pens complained or protested about the events that have occured with the Flyers and Rangers? Just saying in this instance ignorance isn't bliss.

Nah. Laviolette didn't call the Penguins Organization arrogant, and he didn't attack Crosby and Malkin.

Berube was whining and it was definitly a message Laviolette wanted to make through Craig after he was fined.

Uh, hey genius did I say ANYTHING about vitale's hit on briere? No, I said vitale's (knee-on-knee) hit on GROSSMANN. Please try reading the post and understanding it before responding and making yourself look like a tool.

I guess the Penguins must be practicing knee-on-knee hits in the morning skates lately. First vitale, now orpik in the span of 3 games.

Btw, the only reason why Jody Shelley is dressing lately is due to injuries, assclown. JvR is out, Briere is out, and we already have 3 or 4 rookie forwards in the lineup so Shelley was put back in the lineup instead of calling up ANOTHER minor-leaguer. Geez, your lack of knowledge & understanding here is overwhelming.
