Hard to blame him though. 175 pound underwear models are some of the toughest guys around.

Maybe he was just shocked Avery actually finally dropped the gloves. Of course he did it against a noncombatant.

I keep seeing the phrase "long-term" in relation to the Grossmann deal... Its making me slightly nervous...

In all seriousness, great news signing Grossmann. He has really played well and the Flyers obviously saw what everyone else saw and decided to get him locked up.

God willing, Flyers D core could be set for next year if Pronger can come back.

Puzzling they would trade him, but I don't watch the Stars closely enough. Bill would be able to explain the reasoning behind it.

The Stars really collapsed down the stretch, I bet they wish they had kept Grossmann. I'm sure he would have helped them try and right the ship.

Not Likely. They would have kept Grossman, or made him Grosmann...

Simple reasoning would be to get draft picks for a pending UFA, possibly.

To some yes. To me no. This signing could have a great affect in trying to sign Carle. Unless Homer makes a trade to free up som serious cap space.

They would have to make a deal to free up future Cap space to sign Carle now. I believe that Carle is going to test Free Agency. That's been clear for a while. I'm expecting the Grossmann deal to be around the 3.2M cap hit range, give or take. That's a quality signing. I'm very pleased that they are retaining him.

Pronger's questionable status next year is going to hinder what Homer can do in the summer.

Right now we still have 3 priorities:

1) To decide what to do with Carle, who is a UFA
2) Re-sign Jagr, who is also a UFA
3) Re-sign Voracek, set to be an RFA

Without Pronger though, I'm not comfortable with the amount of puck movers on our blue line if we were to lose Carle.

I think the ball is in Carle's court. He's in the drivers seat. Jagr if there is room for him might be back. Voracek has been coming on. I see a breakout from him soon. If not in the playoffs, then next Season.

I agree completely. It's a very important aspect to a team. Carle if he's not back or not replaced is a big loss. They could give more responsibilities to Meszaros and see what happens.

How much do they want?

That could take them right off the priority list.

I would guess that Jagr would like to play one more season, and he has already alluded the fans to believe that he would only play for us if that were the case. I don't think money is going to be an issue there.

I really want to hang onto Voracek as well.

My guess on what Homer will do is re-sign the above and probably sign a 2nd or 3rd pair guy, someone like an Oduya. He's not a guy I like a whole lot, but it's just an example. Hopefully Pronger will be able to recover, but that's still a long ways away. The recent optimism is promisng though, and there's nothing I would like to see more than him suit up again.

Jagr and Voracek would probably cost around $6 million total, although it depends on how long of a deal the latter signs.

Did anyone catch the Torterella comments after the game last night after one of his guys got taken out after a knee on knee hit?
Called Geno and Crysby the their two stars are whining babies or little whining stars or something to that effect, classic.

Same here as far as Pronger playing again. But I don't place much weight on the recent optimism.
