I havent read the whole board, but has it been talked about/figured out that even if Washington wins vs fla thurs, in regulation, we're still in decent shape because then any loss by Wash Sat and we're in OR a loss by fla in regulation and we're in. This is all provided we win out, which is not a great chance anyway. Point is even if Wash wins Thurs as long as we win its not so bad. Obviously we still want Fla to beat Was, but we dont have to jump off a bridge if they dont.
What is the message? We hit guys cutting into the middle with their head down with clean body checks? Good, I'm glad we sent that message!
I don't have a problem with the Flyers getting upset. I have a problem with the perception that what Vitale did was somehow out of line. Why is Joe Vitale out there? Why the hell is Briere out there? That little blame game goes around and around around in circles... Somebody has to be on the ice! - Gunner Staal
I dont blame the Pens at all. Schenn cross checks Crosby from behind, Vitale hits Briere straight up.........if anybody has an issue it should be the Pens with the Flyers.

I thought about turning off the game but as bad as the score looked they weren't playing like the December Sabres. I thought maybe Foligno, Ennis and that guy whose name starts with S might actually put something together. I'm glad I hung in there and watched it.

To be fair 87 had the stick work going good that game. He admitted himself in an interview on Monday that he was guilty as charged.
Enjoy your victory last night gang, it's your last of the season. See you on the links. BTW, we were really hoping your gang could beat us (Marlies) in regulation, but I guess it wasn't going to happen. Miller always says he hates the Leafs. You better hope he finds a way to play better than he did in these past two games and that the Flyers and Bruins are feeling sorry for your team, otherwise it's over.

you still wont make the playoffs so i dunno why your acting all cute. - Neiler
As a Leafs fan, I really appreciate you going out of your way to feed the stereotype that all Leafs fans are trolls and just like to cause trouble on other boards.
I really look forward to continuing my uphill quest to prove that not every Leafs fan is like this.

oh my gosh, i'm so worried now!
not
thanks for your useless input. though.
good luck with your eight year playoff quest.
of course, i thought we were done in the 1st and was coming to terms with the season being over.
on another note leafs fans are stupid and whine about everything.
even the tsn panelists said the goalie never had the puck and the ref knew it.
then they show it in slow mo and the puck was indeed still in play.
and then they are all whining bout the officiating when they wanted their team to lose? they should be thanking the officials.
god they frustrate me with their stupidity and bipolar attitudes. - LizzyJo
RULE 85.3 Puck Out of Sight:
Should a scramble take place or a player accidentally fall on the puck and the puck be out of sight of the Referee, he shall immediately blow his whistle and stop the play. The puck shall then be faced-off at the nearest face-off spot in the zone where the play was stopped unless otherwise provided for in the rules.
AGAIN, the ref's reaction to the puck being in the net WAS DELAYED and therefore lost sight of the puck and should have blown the whistle as per Rule 85.3. There is NO WAY that the ref had a visual on the puck the entire time in the middle of 10 PLAYERS IN THE CREASE. If he did, his head and body would have followed the puck into the net AS IT WAS GOING IN! It's pretty clear that the ref reacted to the crowd noise.
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that the Leafs didn't get the extra point, but it still doesn't change the fact that it was a bullshit non-call.

You can say that for at least half the goals that are scored, and any goal that is deflected. Refs don't see every puck cross the line at the moment it crosses the line every time. That is just not humanly possible.
You're assuming the referee couldn't see it. To be honest, I'd love to hear his explanation. Also, if your interpretation of the rule is correct (and thank God it's not), then the whistle would have to be blown every time the puck is tied up against the boards. Talk about ruining the flow of the game.
Again, just because we can't see the puck in the overhead, does NOT mean that the referee didn't see it at ice level (doesn't necessarily mean he did, either). No referee sees the puck in all 3,600 seconds of play. It's physically impossible, and we'd have a lot more whistles per game than we do now.
That being said, had the referee blown the whistle, I wouldn't have been upset either. Well, I would have been upset, just not at him.

I was in awe it did not get blown. I know if it is the other way around and Buffalo is on the short end of the stick I'm pissed.
The only reason i can honsetly think it was kept alive is that Scrivens was on his knees searching for the puck, instead of in the middle of the scrum.

I think,, and now its only my opinion, (So you don't have too waste anymore keyboard ink with a follow up) that the only time the ref lost sight of the puck was when it was slapped into the net . Even your goalie didn't see that coming .

Yup, onward for Buffalo...
Buffalo still has a very, VERY tall order to fill if they hope to make the playoffs. Even if the playoffs do happen...
- They play in Philly and in Boston with a sub .500 road record (18-19-2)and the fact that both Philly and Boston are leading the season series. Philly is also still playing for home ice in the 1st round.
- Catching Washington who hold the tie-breaker and have a great home record where they are 25-11-4. The Caps still think they can catch Florida for 3rd in the East who are 3-5-2 in their last 10 and 1-1-3 in their last 5, 4 of those 5 games were against non-playoff teams!
- IF the playoffs do happen, good luck vs the #1 seed in East, the Rangers who have been amazing all year with a Vezina candidate between the pipes.
- IF the 2nd round happens, it will likey be against the Pens or Bruins... NOT HAPPENING!
