You're right.......I think he wanted to, but didn't wanna rock the boat. He slipped a few times this season.....no way he didn't wanna bench certain guys when it mattered. He's a yes man...

He slipped a few times this year? He is probably one of the worst coaches I've ever seen in any sport and this is coming from an Islanders fan

Leafs melted too.

Blew 3-0, 4-2, and 5-3 leads to lose in OT.

Tonight was Islanders hockey at its finest. The fact that the morons who run this franchise are going to bring back a dolt like Capuano speaks volumes as to why everyone not named Garth Snow, Charles Wang, or Dee Karl (j.k. Dee) knows what a downright joke this franchise is.

I am so glad I was able to watch the Rangers, Sabres, and Panthers (thats right the (frank)ing Panthers) to remember why hockey is the greatest sport in the world. The Islanders have beaten me and every other fan so far into submission we forget why we love this sport.

Could not have said it any better. Bettman is a clown to for allowing Wang to run this team like this.

The lackluster, uninspired play this team demonstrates night in and night out literally makes it hard to watch.

Donovan looked really good tonight. He made some veteran like defensive plays and looked really comfortable out there. That game was a total snooze fest. Both teams looked like they didnt care. I had to fight to stay awake.

Dan, keep us posted on Nelson...he could be the Islanders 2nd line center next year if Bridgeport has a long run in the playoffs.

What's the deal with the 11am game today? Is that one of those school field trip day games?

Nobody knows what happened except the guys in that room. You or I don't know what Smith agreed to when he first came on. How do you know for sure Wang said one thing and then did something else? Bottom line is you just don't know if you weren't in that room
- Vukota

Exactly. Besides, How can anyone justify Wang whitewashing LaFontaine's memory from the team's history over something as stupid as LaFontaine resigning from a non-paying advisory role? How can anyone justify LaFontaine's phone call to mend fences being ignored by Wang over a stupid resignation? It all reeks of Wang acting like a child because others wouldn't play his game in the sandbox one day.

A little snip it from the article......
"Wang set it up so each person would report directly to him. Every member of the front-office team has a role.

Smith wasn't used to that kind of setup, even though Wang said he was very clear about it up front. One point of contention was the hiring of an equipment manager. As GM, Smith thought that was his job. Wang decided all matters involving the team would be decided by Nolan."

- kindlyrick

Did you actually read the entire article? I just did and I also read Hradek's take on it again. I vaguely remember reading both pieces at nauseum when the apocalypse went down that summer, and I've been subconsciously trying to block it out ever since.

Those two pieces sum up the Islanders and Wang and the perception of them that still resonates around hockey to this day, six years later. It also cements the fact that Wang is crazy and the rift with LaFontaine is just as crazy as Wang is.

Alot of people want to believe these guys are doing the right thing, I'd like to believe it as well. Common sense prevented me from believing acouple years ago. Most people I know are done or almost done with this team. Most have been fans since the seventies. Its a disgrace

Five years straight of last place divisional finishses. Five years straight of bottom five in the league finishes. Five years straight of no playoffs. Three coaches in five years. No significant trades or decent UFA's signed in five years with the notable exception of Streit and Moulson/PAP, who the team got lucky with. No way anyone can look at this team objectively and say anything is being done right.

Wang cant see really good with those eyes. They get killed every night, maybe not on the scoreboard but every other aspect of the game.

Your wrong kindlyrick does he thinks we are doing a bang up job and that the future is bright. I am not convinced about the future yet until I see these guys actually play in the NHL and until I know where the hell my team is going tobe in the future

Carolina wins, Toronto gets a point, Isles lose...good night for us

As disappointed in the organization as I am, I agree with you completely on racing to the bottom to at least get the better draft pick out of it all.
