The messed up part is that guys like Foligno are exactly what Burke was preaching. You think he'd take special attention and actually do what he was saying he would do. It's just a small example but it's annoying that the Leafs have to trade guys like Keith Aulie for Carter Ashton to ATTEMPT to get a power-forward meanwhile, they're right there under his nose and he passes on them. - Unholy_Goalie

Nice deflection.
So who should Dudley be drafting with all his picks this year?
The point isn't about Burke; it's about you coming to terms with the fact that you aren't omniscient. - Leeman4Gilmour
No, the point is that it's Burke's job to find the right players. Especially when it was his own mandate to bring in guys like Foligno.
Funny how Burke makes a promise to the fans, doesn't deliver it and then when somebody calls him out on it, you and the other apologists, go after anybody and everybody that isn't Burke. You know, the guy who is actually failing to match his actions to his words.

I think teams usually pick the players they like and think will be good prospects. - Leafsfan9329
Burke had a pick in the 3rd round and no pick in the 4th round. He picked Jamie Devane. For all intents and purposes, a big, lumbering cement head. In the 4th round the Sabres took Foligno, a tough, hard-nosed, serviceable player. He just made the wrong selection. |

Hey when the Toronto Sun needs to replace Steve Simmons once he accepts the replacement role at CBC for Milbury you'd be a great candidate |

I think teams usually pick the players they like and think will be good prospects. yeah okay Foligno looks like is going to Pan out for the Sabres. But lets remember who the coach was in 2009 for the Leafs Ron Wilson.
What Burke said when he first took over never really panned out and he mentioned it in his press conference after he fired Wilson. I'm not defending Burke I'm just stating the fact Burke built the team the way Wilson wanted the team built. Now its his job to build the team the way Carlyle wants it built.
Freaking late round draft picks are hit or miss but I understand you are Unholy Goalie and would forever share your hate opinion on us for all time. So please carry on. - Leafsfan9329
After so many years of getting it wrong shouldn't one expect at some point someone would get it right??..

Such bitterness.
Are you angry that you got passed over for the job? - Leeman4Gilmour
24th, 29th, 22nd and soon 26th.
Why would a Leafs fan ever be angry about that?

Don't start this argument.
I've seen Europe's cities I know which type of people are producing children in large numbers, and I can tell you, they aren't europeans - AngryWhiteMale
The reality is that for the next few years, American players will become more common, especially near the upper echelon.
Their available pool of talent will continue to grow at the minor league level seeing as they haven't reached a saturation point in hockey participation like the Nordic countries and Canada. And, yes, they are still producing children at a much higher rate.
All these things are necessary for hockey to grow. We're already seeing the results of an increasingly growing American hockey program.
I'll bet they medal at every Olympics for the next 15 years. |

Wasn't Devane the surprise pick at the time??...Was he not projected to be like a 6-7 rounder??? |

And making the wrong selections happen all the time in any pro sport. At the end of the day Burke and the Leaf scouts obviously liked Devane for some reason and not Foligno. Guess its a question someone should ask Burke about. |

The colour of my skin has nothing to do with my anger, to imply so is racist, especially if you are white.

yea but foligno was projected to go in the 4th round and devane projected in the 3rd. why waste a 3rd for a guy projected in the 4th? obviously it looks dumb now but at the time no one could see this happening |

Yeah it went in after the 45 second scrum and it finally came into view from underneath scrivens glove for Roy to poke it in. |

He was relied heavily on both teams to draft well. Dudley is the single best asset the Leafs have in their front office in terms of drafting. It's well documented around the NHL that he has a great eye for talent. |

It's really going to be Canada, US, SWE in the top 3 for the next decaade.
Until Russia starts producing decent defencemen they aren't going to make it far.
I should make an exception for the Finns. Despite not having a stacked lineup they do play well for their country. Though, I wonder how they'll perform in 2014 without Selanne, Koivu(s) and Kiprusoff
A side note: Scarborough's population is 600,000. You'd think a city of people that big would be able to produce enough young hockey players, yet, in a few years, their minor hockey program will fold due to lack of enrollment and any players hoping to play will need to either look towards durham or Markham/GTHL |
