I am going to the game in Pitts this sat.. a few of my friends are coming up from philly to see the Flyers and Phillies..

Seeing Grossmann and Briere out now I suspect this last game could get very ugly.
I hope none of the key players on either team get any serious injuries out of it.

- opeth_pa

So, are you insinuating that Grossman and Briere being out were because of foul play or illegal hits and Philly will comes out guns a blazing and make it chippy? It will be chippy for bigger reasons than that.

It doesn't matter what the reason is... the fact that injuries came out of the controversy of that game yesterday is only going to continue to fuel that fire.

It is not going to be THE reason the series is going to be extremely chippy and physical. That will be a result of the history of these franchises and the hate that comes with that. However, recent events keep that history relevant and the game yesterday with extremely important players on the Flyers getting injured and the hooplah of everything that happened is exactly that.

To converse with Penguins fans about it. Why else would I come in here to talk about it? Isn't that one of the better features of this site? Interaction with other teams fans, especially during the playoffs? It should be atleast... but when anyone comes into another fanbases thread to converse they are immediately fighting an uphill battle to even have a conversation.

You started the conversation with what is effectively...

Tell me...is that a conversation starter or more like a threat/attempt to intimidate?

i dont see us getting out of this series healthy....

flyers are going to come strong and if we play like we played them the last 2 games, we will be out in 5...

our D needs to protect their zones and play man to man at times... and out pp needs to improve... stop these cross ice passes and work around the perimeter.. the flyers pp looks so fluid... and i cringe when i say that..

Why would you say that?

You should try back Saturday evening.

Wasn't aware I had to throw my kid gloves on to start up a sports conversation... I will keep that in mind for my future conversation starters here with you guys.

My point exactly that when you enter another teams thread to talk... your immediately fighting an uphill battle.

If the Penguins stop playing pond/pick-up hockey, they will have a chance.

These last couple of weeks they have seemed so un-Bylsma-like.

Maybe they just needed to re-focus. Hopefully yesterday helps because time is running out.

Gonna be a blood bath ...really think the winner of the series will be so beat up they won't last long after the first round though...bummer because one of us should be representing the East in the finals.

Hmmm...kid gloves?

We are so delicate here.

I am guessing, if I go over the Flyers side and post exactly what you did, the response I get will be less than cordial.

'The Pens aren't going to take any more from Schenn and Hartnell. They are going to be hitting everything that moves the whole game from start to finish. Hope the Flyers are ready."

How do you think that will go over?

Letang / Giroux, whoever. My thought is that faking is ruining the game. Or am I making a mountain out of a molehill?
- danham92

There's some truth to what you're saying. Problem is, until EVERYONE stops it, NOBODY will stop it. But I agree with you, it looks soccerish.

Couple things.
First, the Schenn crosscheck on Crosby was not after the whistle. Not sure what game people were watching but it was BEFORE the whistle and here is the proof: The penalty does not show up on the box score yet was called. Reason for this? It happened in the time between the Pen's goal being scored (after which play continued because it was initially waved off) and the whistle actually being blown. Because it was BEFORE the whistle but after the goal, it doesn't actually count.
Second, to the guy who was comparing Letang faking to Giroux embellishing. Giroux ACTUALLY got hit by a stick on the BENCH by a player on the ICE. That is a penalty even if he doesn't make contact. Yeah G embellished but there was actually contact. Letang NEVER GOT HIT. That is the difference between a dive and an embellishment.

Not to start anything with you but Giroux didn't get touched by the stick. If I had the energy or want to to find the gif I would prove it to you.

well if rangers lose the next 3 and we win next 3 we can take first but if they go 2-0-1 and we go 3-0 they still take first bc of ROW I hate ROW, we lost top seed bc of that all the time...

It's time to forget about catching the Rangers. We got the Flyers and it's going to be fantastic.

I've been giving this some thought...

Does anybody think the old 'cold war' analogy MIGHT prevail?

Both sides realize a bloodbath, at least early on, won't help them if they advance.

I kind of think that's why, although things will certainly stay warm or heat up a little more...it MAY not get as bad as we think.

I expect a lot of hitting and physical play...and maybe some nasty stuff in the season finale...but in Round 1, I am not so sure.

I don't think they will play All-Star hockey (although the Pens seem more likely to want to do that recently) just saying it MIGHT not get as bad as we think if both sides see the mutual destruction it can cause.

i have hope, plus i dont care for this bantor back of forth on who did what.. games over and we cant do anything but try to win the next 3 games... we played like crap, they played better, both teams did things to piss the other team off... blah blah blah its hockey!!!

if we play them, its going to be bad... for both teams, now if it was the eastern conf finals it would be more tame i feel bc one wrong/stupid move could cost you the cup... first round is always more exciting... and tough

To be honest if we bang up the Flyers a little more before the playoffs then that is fine with me. I would run Giroux every play and even after every play. That's what they do with Malkin except Malkin is built bigger. The goal next game against Philly is to set the tone for the series.

Grossman's injury had nothing to do with the "controversy" if that is what you want to call it. He was injured in the first period, right? Remind me, how did Grossman get hurt?
