But the same thing could have been said for guys like Karlsson who played in Sweden up to their draft date. - wendel13
Meaning what? That because Karlsson turned out the way he did the Leafs should roll the dice on Forsberg? Nah.
Karlsson was known to be an offensive beast when he was drafted. The problem was his size and his defense. He was a boom or bust pick and yes a risk. But a risk at 15 isn't the same as a risk at 5. Why risk it for a winger when there are clearly good enough centers? Not worth it. |

Wait...do your thoughts about players coming to OHL hold up for the Q? Grigo has bust written all over him. Next Malkin or next bust? - wendel13
The OHL is the best junior development league in the world. Close second is the WHL who go back and forth often. If players can prove themselves there, more often than not, they're good enough for the NHL.
A guy like Landeskog, who comes to the OHL, dominates and proves that he's worth it, is the type of guy you pick. Same with Faksa. A guy like Forsberg, is a bigger risk. There are more unknowns to his game. |

I am not saying I want the Leafs to pick him. I am saying that him not coming to North America makes him riskier but doesn't necessarily mean that he won't be a top notch player. I really hope Dudley writes the book on all these prospects; if Dudley oversees drafting Forsberg, probably a good bet to say there is some talent there.
I for one want Galchenyuk first and would love to see Gaunce or Faksa if not Gally. However, if the Leafs pick Forsberg, I will reserve judgement until I see him play. |

Yeah lets just say theoretically Grigo is sitting at 4th and Leafs are on the clock. Do you take him or does the QMJHL factor give you worry? Just wondering cause that league can be do deceptive sometimes. |

Forsberg this year might as well be Mika Zibanejad. 6th overall by the Senators last year.
As for the QMJHL, it's still a good league. Couturier and Huberdeau aren't slouches. If anything should worry people about Grigorenko, it's his own attitude, not the QMJHL. If he can be motivated enough to be the next Malkin, then he just might be. |

Wouldn't Nino Niederreiter fall under this same area as players like forsberg? If im not mistaken, he never played in the OHL. |

Word. I for one am glad we have some more tank nationers on board here. Sick of the b.s shortcuts. A team like the Leafs can afford to get the best scouts and draft high while complimenting those players with free agents. Everyone forgets that when you have exciting young talent, the character veterans are more likely to want to sign with your team and play with those guys. A team like Toronto would have no trouble signing the best veteran free agents if they had prospect A who was going to be a star for his career. |

Nino was a top scorer in the WHL playing on a line with Ryan Johansen and Brad Ross (Leafs pick). I think he has been rushed by the Islanders. Ross is a guy I am looking forward to, Steve Ott type pest with some offensive upside. A little undersized but not afraid to mix it up. |

Poor Islanders screwed that pick up. He played in the WHL. Jeff Skinner looks a lot better than he does right now. |

1 point in 50 games and a -24. Not the greatest way to start off a young career in the NHL. I remember a lot of hype surrounding him. |

My only issue with Edmonton is that I am not sure I like all the young guys being thrown in right after being drafted. Nuge and Hall have had some injuries early on and Paajarvi needs more developing time. They for sure need to add some D depth this year. |

I am not ready to call him a bust yet but I think he may need to redefine his role in the NHL. I see him as a potential 20-30 second line scorer with size. Probably needed some more time in junior and AHL. |

I think its his management. Tavares is good, But deffinatley is flourishing the way we thought he would. I personally think if Nino stay on the Island is career is going to be crumbling before him.
Look how good Turris did when he got out of Phoenix. The Island isnt the place for Nino, Let alone anyone else on that team. They are just a straight up horrible franchise. |

Turris is doing alright. His ceiling is second line centre and he is playing that role fine behind Spezza. He is still a disappointment from what he was anticipated to be at the time of the draft (Yzerman comparisons). The irrational part of my brain still hopes one day Tavares will say eff the Islanders and come back home...ah to dream. |

Hes signed through 2018. dont think hes going anywhere too soon.
He doesnt seem like the selfish type to ask for a trade (although I wish he would.)
He's rotting in NY. |

He'll be fine on the Island. That team will get it right soon enough. |

Not many top picks have had rookies seasons that bad and managed to eventually be stars. Thornton is the only I can think off right away. 7 points in 55 games as a rookie. Still not as bad but close enough. |

Dood, How long has it been since they've even been half respectful....... They made a playoffs in a shootout a few years back. With a much different squad. Since then they havent progressed an inch.

Here's where they've finished in the East since they made the playoffs last.
2008: 13th
2009: 15th
2010: 13th
2011: 14th
2012: 14th (so far)
They've been fairly consistent in their poor play. They have a few nice pieces to show for it otherwise it's not looking like their tanking is having its desired effect. If they could spend to the cap they could fill in some holes and make a playoff push soon though I bet. With that said I don't know if they'll ever be allowed to do that. |

They play in the toughest division in hockey. Their young star keeps getting better, and they have some prospect depth. They'll get it right. |
