Nope. What's truely stupid is drafting a goalie you don't need in the top 5 passing over players who are rated much better who fits needs in your organization.

Goalies in the 1st round are usually a bad choice.

Kypreos would be better than Gustavsson in net, however.
- p_zub

An upright stick leaning against the crossbar is better than Gustavsson at this point. Not even a goalie stick, just a regular one.

And why would Vokoun want to waste what little time he was left with the Leafs? Same goes for Biron.

Unfortunately, veteran goaltenders, especially good ones, don't want to screw around in Toronto and can you blame them? Play in net for a bad team, get blamed for the losses after every game and have virtually no chance to win.

If the Leafs want a veteran goalie, they will have to either trade for one or seriously overpay one as a UFA.

And yes, I'm starting to get worried that a team like the Flames might be selling a guy like Kipper and the Leafs would definitely try and be buyers.

would be wise, imo.

Top 5 or 10, in this draft, no, doesn't make sense. Late in the 1st round? Yes, makes sense.

Several goaltenders disagree including Rask, Price, Ward, Fleury and Luongo. That's five just off the top of my head. Pretty sure Brodeur was one too.

You think any team selling the likes of Kipper would have a low price?

Remember, Kipper is short for Kiprusoff, not Nick Kypreos.

- Unholy_Goalie

He can't go into next season with Reimer as the starter so it'll be interesting (potentially scary) to see what he does. We're not going to like the price of trading for a starter.

Kiprusoff? It would cost you more than you could conceive in your worst nightmares.

If the Flames decide to blow it up and trade Iginla and Kiprusoff, I see Iginla in Pittsburgh and Kiprusoff in Washington. And it's because they are the kinds of teams that those guys want to go to as well as the types of teams that can afford to give up multiple picks and prospects to acquire them.

Hard to say what the price of a 36 yr. old (next Oct.) Kipper with 2 years at $6M would cost.

I gotta think that if the Flames were seriously considering a rebuild that Kipper's $6M would almost be considered a dump and the price might not be as high as you think.

Again, if the price is too high the Leafs aren't interested and move on. End of story.

What do you think Kipper is worth these days?

Plus with everything those two have done for Calgary they'll be sent to a favorable destination.....Toronto is not that.

As I said months and months ago, if the Leafs wanted to have a real shot at making the playoffs, they had to pony up and sign Bryzgalov. He had a rough start and then after the media hype died down, he stood on his head. The Leafs on the other hand, put their faith in two unproven, under-qualified goaltenders and find themselves sitting in 26th.

For me, it has worked out nicely. The Leafs tanked, are probably going to get a good pick and will be better off long term because of it. For Burke however, disastrous error and one he has made TWICE with the Leafs and with the Canucks with Cloutier.

Yeah, I believe the Leafs selected Drake Berehowsky before Brodeur in that draft.

At least a top-six roster player, a top prospect and a 1st. At least.
