For three years now I've heard that song and seen that dance and it doesn't stop them from bombing. 29th, 22nd and now sitting in 26th. All they have to do is go with Reimer and Scrivens. If he sold Reimer and Gustavsson last year, he can sell Reimer and Scrivens next year.
But I know his ass is on the line now. I know he's dying to make 8th place. I know he's going to do something stupid to make it happen. My point is that the opportunity is there. The opportunity to tank it again, watch him get fired and watch this team do things right for a change. Just hope we get that lucky. - Unholy_Goalie

Ya that was a few months ago. I like to think of it like the "Tavares can't skate pick Duchene." Now who's laughing? - AdamFrench
Duchene has had some very bad luck this year with injuries. I still love him as a player and think he would have close numbers to JT if he was healthy all year.

They traded Ryan Smith and kicked off their rebuild. They brought him back for next to nothing. They sold him when he was worth the most and brought him back when he was worth the least. That's called buying low and selling high.
As for Horcoff and Hemsky, those guys are as good as gone as soon as their value is good enough to do so. Hemsky was on the block for a year and if they got a decent enough package for him, he would have been gone at the deadline.
Bottom line here is that the Leafs are trying to make their core around Grabovski and Lupul when they should be selling guys like that and replacing them with younger, better draft picks and prospects. - Unholy_Goalie
you're doing what you do, and assuming that a whole lot is fact, just because you state as much.
they chose to resign hemsky, and pay him pretty well. if you want to believe the rumours, the rumoured return was enough to warrant trading him, not keeping him. that was a choice edmonton made, because their young players need veteran guidance.
ryan smyths situation was a little dicey to. kevin lowe traded him on a whim during the final minutes of a contract situation.. hardly shopping him for the sheer intent of rebuilding. they took him back for practically nothing, for his veteran leadership. it was never about buying low and selling high.
you told me i was a moron for wanting to trade grabovski a year and a half ago. straight up. something about wanting to trade the player with the most part who's been improving year after year as a leaf was completely insanity.
You can't build a house without a strong foundation. It doesn't matter how much patch work you try and do, if your footings and foundation walls are crumbling, you have to go back and do it again. You can spend time and money trying to avoid it but it's an inevitability.
The Leafs, once again, have a solid opportunity to do things right. They have some players that they could sell for picks and prospects and they can tank it again next year. Do they want to cut the corner again or do it right? - Unholy_Goalie
Do you honestly think that bringing in a vet goalie to help out Reimer and the team is cutting corners? Id like to go after a guy like Kipper etc if available, but no need to go big. Just safe...

For the franchise, I hope this happens...but in all honesty I hope it doesn't take burke getting fired.
I like him, I like his passion for hockey, I love his passion and respect he has for the city of Toronto and love that he tries to employ an old school style of play...although that clearly didn't happen with Wilson behind the bench.
But I do have the crappy suspicion that as long as he's our GM...things won't go to plan. I would trade the entire Leafs roster, our GM and our scouting staff for what the Oilers have right now.

How long was that contract? 2 years for him to get his value up or 10 years to keep him forever?

Sold high, tanked, drafted high, bought low.

Because Grabovski's value had not reached it's peak yet and what they would have got for Grabovski wouldn't be what they could get for him now. Had they moved him at the deadline, he would have got a 1st and a prospect.

You didn't answer the question.
Im dense? But yet, you're avoiding saying taking Fleury and Ward in the first round was a good choice, because you originally said taking goalies in the first round is a bad choice.

Burke is a blowhard. The Leafs don't need a flamboyant attention whore to build and lead this team. If anything they need the complete opposite. A guy like AA with the Blue Jays. Burke is all about the theatrics, not the art. This team needs a guy who understands the art of building a team.

you're assuming, and reacting like it's fact. this is what you do.
assuming hemsky was resigned to be traded, assuming smyth was traded just with the intetnion to buy low on him later on in his career.. these are things you could never know unless you sit in the oilers front office throughout the season. the part that really impresses me is how you can be in the front office of 30 nhl teams at once.
and the 1st might not have been as good as grabovski after 4 years investing, and the prospect might not have been as good as grabovski after 4 years investing. the leafs have a wealth of centers, that might not be as good as grabovski when finally matured.

you are a clown.
To answer your question, yes they are good choices. Does 2 picks prove it to be true? Nope. More often than not it's a flop.

He had 25pts in his first 40gp and was in a slump that all players go in and out of... but since injuries he has had 3pts in 17 or so games... I think it screwed his year up. Obviously I can't prove he would get 31g and 78pts like JT BUT the Lanche' turned their season right around and I think Duchene would have done the same and probably would have been close, I mean his seasons show he is capable atleast.
