Bobby Clarke wasn't a Penguin, that's the problem.

The maybe Mario would have been a flyer and we would have a catastrophic failure of the space time continuum

Quick read up on Matt Mangene. Flyers have reportedly signed the smallish, but really fast, skater to a contract for the next two years.

Mangene played both wing and defense at Maine.

That's a tap...Schenn barely puts anything into it. You can see it in his body language. Still, I did hear the report from a rifle echo throughout the building at the exact moment, so...

Agreed. I think Jackson Is an awful homer. Although I don't listen to other broadcasts enough. Coatsey doesn't bother me.
- Just5

I think Bill mentioned something the other day saying the Flyer annoucers have to induce more homerism.

What's your point? I'm not saying that he wasn't crosschecked, I'm saying there was more to the play that just that.
- hockeylover

I agree, he was crosschecked and he threw himself into the fall like he'd be getting scored by the Russian judges.

Coatsey is the comic relief. Jackson is a homer because he's paid to be a homer. I prefer Clement to Keith Jones.

He was...it was annoying.
- Jsaquella

I don't mind that. I think it's good for casual and younger fans of a game to get that anxiety in jj's voice when a great player has the puck. It's just the ridiculous one sided bias towards the flyers with penalties and non calls etc.

I know why he's a homer, just don't like it. I have heard him call non-Flyers games on NBC?VErsus and he does a solid job

It's not my fault you didn't understand my argument.

For this game coming up Saturday, after yesterday's antics, there's going to be a short leash on players like Rinaldo, especially with the way he was snapping at Asham and Crosby yesterday.

As much as they try, the can't protect Crosby every game, but this upcoming one against the Flyers, this is known to have fuses sticking out of it.

I hope I made that more understandable for you.

He's really not that biased. If you think so you really need to start checking out some other game feeds. JJ is ok in my book.

My biggest complaint is the whining about calls and non calls. It sounds bad...."And they're going to call that _____!"

I am not a fan of Jackson, Jones and Coates. They're not awful, just find them annoying. They're not homers of the Edwards/Steigerwald stripe, nor are they the old school style showman like Rick Jeanearett.

I just cringe when I hear Jackson whine "They're gonna call that icing?!?!?" Yeah Jim. He shot it from his side of the (frank)ing red line. They're calling it icing because it was icing.

You know we had our 2nd line out there right?

If we had our 4th line out...I totally agree with you, but we were not looking for a fight there like you guys were.

- flyers4487

I think it's more like it was stupid to have Danny B out there following the crosscheck to Crosby. It was obvious retributions would have been given out.

Bobby Clarke was one of the most dirty players ever. He'd two hand a guy, and if the guy looked at him cross eyed afterward, he was getting his ass handed to him.

If Giroux was coming off a concussion and got cross checked-even if he initiated the the thing, I'd want Rinaldo, Hartnell or Simmonds or somebody to go after the offending player.

- Jsaquella

Why are you bringing up Clarke, that was 30 years ago.

Fair enough. There seem to be 2 lines of argument for what happened in the closing minute yesterday - Retaliation and regular hockey rolling of the lines. Which is it?

That wasn't Giroux getting hit in the head by Malkin yesterday? I don't remember anybody going after Malkin earlier in the year when he tried to decapitate Giroux. (I know, I know...he missed. But if he connects, Giroux would have been out of hockey a very long time. And isn't there something in the rule about 'intent'?) And how many hacks has Giroux taken to the hands after it being known - because Hartnell was taking draws - that he had some issues?

The point being, Giroux takes a lot of punishment.

It's not against the code. There was absolutely nothing wrong with Vitale's hit on Briere.
- Jsaquella

Lol, I guess the re-written code says he should have stopped and offered his hand, and said..."good game sir, well played old boy!"

Clement is great, but I think Jonesy is better on other telecasts when he's not around JJ and Coatsy. Too much stupid joking back and forth.

That's my issue with Crosby's statement after the game. I also didn't care for Laviolette's "gutless" comment. Every coach has put guys like Asham and Engelland to send a message at the end of a game like yesterday's, including Laviolette.
- Jsaquella

Lavi just got caught up in the emotion of the game. I understand the situation from both sides but when you stick out your 4th line with a minute left that hasnt played in over 12mins what do you expect to happen. I think the check was clean on Briere but it was obvious to me that the Pens were sending a message bc of the cross check on Crosby. The Pens/Flyers played chippy all day and I dont blame the Flyers for finally sticking up for themselves. Never let a team push you around.

I think you are reading too much into this Bo. It wasn't the worst cross check I've ever seen, but he had no idea it was coming and it certainly was plenty hard enough to knock him over. Not everything Sid does is calculated to the extent that you guys make it out to be.
