I have nothing to say about that play. I had nothing to say then, I have nothing to say now.

I recorded the reaction from the WC that night (note it was not yet the WFC):

Remember this never was the Flyers year. This year I am just enjoying the ride and watching the young kids grow into this rivalry. If they can take down the Pens it would be fantastic for the team regardless with what happens afterwards. There is truly a championship caliber nucleus here.

Note that I am mostly joking. If they reel in their emotions, they can beat the Pens in the playoffs. I am just frustrated at the double standards in rulings from the NHL year to year (Stevens getting fined for doing what the Pens did yesterday a few years back, but Bylsma gets nothing and Granato gets a 1/4 of what Stevens was fined for), etc.

I just want to beat the Pens in round 1. Everything else will be gravy. Then, I will reopen my WOW account and get all my characters up to Level 20.

I hear you...its frustrating no doubt. I don't remember what happened a couple years ago but I thought the fines for yesterday's incident were in line. I don't think the flyers should reel in emotions. I think they need to keep doing what their doing. Schenn and Cooter yesterday were beautiful. Have to make this series personal.

It is personal. This series should be a good one. You have to love the hatred and the rivalry that these teams have.

Agreed, I think the more "personal" this match up gets, the more it favors the Flyers.

During the last cup run, the Flyers were constantly involved with trash talking. Totally agree, the more "personal" the better for the Flyers. They play an aggresive style that only gets more aggressive with the trash talking, scrums in the corners and physical play.

What I mean by reeling in their emotions is to make sure that they do not shorthand themselves, killing their own chances at winning by not playing smart hockey.

There will be penalties. Probably more taken than what the refs will give the darling Pens. But thats Flyer hockey. Kill em off, feed off it

You think the refs are going to favor the Pens with calls? I know the league loves Crosby and Malkin but I dont know if its mandatory to give the Pens more PP's in a series.

Malkin is a gutless puke. Spearing a player in the junk as he lays on the ice after painfully blocking a shot is just garbage. Show some respect.
When you add the fact that he's a guy who gets league protection, and he's doing that to a fringe NHL'er, it's disgraceful.

The rest of it, I loved. And though I admire Simmonds' willingness to go with anyone, I'd prefer that he and and the rest of the team not bother fighting talentless goons.

I'm not a conspiracy type of guy. But check back with me after the series, I'm fairly confident the Flyers will tally more minors.

Actually I didnt. I just dont think the refs are purposely calling more penalties on the Flyers. Teams that get PP's earn them by outworking the other team.

I'm not talking about against the Flyers. That Pens team dove their way to the Finals. Not everyone likes to say it, because they want to appear like they are above such things, but if you watched the games, it was obvious and it was bad for the game.

Thats the "truth" and always will be. You earn them by outworking the opposition. As we use to call it "wanting it more".

Embellishment is one thing but you still have to work to draw that penalty.
