He didn't look stellar on the 1st goal, either. Not all his fault, by any stretch, but he's been lunging all game. He hasn't been square to shooters and he hasn't been moving very effectively.

The Alfredsson goal he was not positioned well. He was off center and gave up a lot of space to his left. Which is where the shot went. Not sure if it deflected or not.

i know exactly what you're talking about. just making a point that if bob had stepped up, and the flyers had gotten a bounce their own way, the score could be reversed.

i don't think the last one would have gone in had carle not been there. it looked to be dead in its tracks to his left. still, that shouldn't have squeaked through. he's clearly rattled now. which doesn't bode well for tomorrow.

Can't even worry about tomorrow yet, still have forty minutes to go today

It may have been, but that was going in regardless of a deflection.

Yup. Oh well. Not really concerned. I don't think it would be a bad thing for the Flyers to drop to # 6. Florida played about as bad a game as possible last night against Columbus. A game that could have helped them clinch the Division.

it sure was. hit kubina in the leg. it was going to the left side of the net. had it gone through, he theoretically would have stopped it. hit him, and went straight to the opposite corner. of course.

and if bryz were healthy and backing up today, he'd have gone in the net right then and there. but with chiuauauaua on the bench, and bob having to go tomorrow against the pigeons he's going to finish this game unless he gets hurt.
- hammarby31

pretty much. It's really a moot point now. They aren't getting home ice in the first round, at this point I would rather they lose out and play Florida or Washington to be honest.

My concern, more than home ice or positioning, is to be on a roll going in. Not necessarily winning 5 in a row, but playing well.

They didn't really have that bad a first. Every mistake ended up in the net, but they generated some good chances and and had decent energy. But a couple breakdowns and boom, behind the 8 ball.

Yep. Even if the Flyers hit the playoffs healthy (which they won't) and playing well, imo they would be no better than a 50/50 bet to beat the Penguins, so with that the case, why not prefer playing Florida, a team they can handle, gain some momentum, and get some healthy bodies back in the process.

Luke Schenn starting to heat up. Simmonds scores with his face. Now that is dedication.

Not sure if that is an indictment of the coaching staff or what.

And there goes Simmonds injured.

Its an indictment of the players, and the players only. They are professional hockey players. They know what is going on, it is up to them to be ready.

I don't think I've ever seen a goal off a player's face.

hopefully it was the mouth area and not higher up.

I don't think it's something that can be blamed on one person or aspect of the team. The Flyers, as a whole, just have to be better at afternoon games.

That's about as tough a goal as you'd ever want to score. Hope Simmonds is OK.

They're going to have to play Pitsburgh, New York or Boston to get out of the East, likely 2 out of the 3. To me it's immaterial which round it happens.

Agreed. For whatever reason they aren't ready to play when the puck drops in afternoon games.

You never know. If the Flyers play Florida in the first round, two of the Rangers, Bruins, and Pens could lose in the first round. Not likely, but who knows, stranger things have happened. Look at the path the Flyers had getting to the Finals 2 years ago.

Normally I would agree with you, but there is a chance the Flyers could get JVR and Meszaros back in the second round. That would be a boost.

Hopefulyl those stops get Bob's confidence back. He needs to shut the door the rest of the way
