I think the problem is your prospects arent good enough to hope for them to be stars in the future, but your team isnt bad enough that you will get Edmonton or Pittsburg picks for like 5 years straight.
Blow the team up and start from scratch with someone that can build a team, not someone that is going to rush a rebuild... - RooNosHockey
listen, I dont know you so I wont get into this too deep...but lets put it this way. There wasnt a GM in the world who could have stepped in with what we had 3-4 years ago and done a whole lot better.
If we're leaving it at that, why did you end with a question mark? hahaha
No, not cool. The team is in marginally better shape than it was before the new regime took over. What's needed is the true and proper rebuild that Leaf Nation was ready and asking for 5 years ago. We either start it now, 5 years later, or we retool and become a playoff bubble team again. - 1979AD
Yea, I think that is what I said too. But I guess I get ignored because I'm not Canadian.

Hmmmm I think pretty much any other GM in the league would at least have a couple franchise pieces in place from the two lottery picks it took to acquire Philip.
The way things are right now, that would be better shape.
When's the last time a win meant anything in Edmonton? - whipper334
last couple years when they won the draft lotto.
Sorry bout your Flames though... I think we all know, deep down inside, what a long crappy ride you guys are in for... especially knowing that they've done everything possible to delay it, only to fail.
Soon you'll get to the point where the Oilers were 3 years ago.

thank you, even though whose going to want komi, armstrong, lombardi and connolly? hopefully theres an amnesty and we can buy one out and just send the rest to the marlies lol - matt1337
I think you're missing my point. I don't want another playoff bubble team.

Yea, let's go back to the old style... Start filling up the marlies with useless junk, while our prospects get less and less ice..
KEEP the current path going. Let the useless players play out their contracts and whent he holes are created, move the AHL players..
After next year, the follwing contracts are up and can be raplaced by:

Ah... NUPE. The position your in has more to do with Burke trying to rush a rebuild. The last thing a rebuild team should do is trade a first rounder... yet alone 2. Plus your drafting isn't exactly turning out studs.
If I were taking over the Leafs 4 years ago, I would have done exactly what Edmonton did. You would be at least sitting with Seguin and RNH right now... at least.

i think with a #1 vet goalie and #1C we wont be a playoff bubble team. didnt read that part. i get lazy sometimes and only skim through what people say lol
as a side, anyone ever think maybe if we got Dumba, it might remind phaneuf of how he played when he came into the league and go back to that player? that'd be interesting to see

I think that's exactly what will take this team from bottom dwellers to the playoff bubble.
I'd much rather acquire a core of young superstars via the draft a la PITT, CHI, WAS, etc. I know there's no guarantees, but I think we've exhausted the 'retool' approach.

crystal balls cannot be used as a form of argument. Sorry...but obv Burke couldnt predict how high the picks were going to end up...no one could...
