The habs are fine with the 2nd, Imagine what the 2nd - 5th round picks must be thinking right now.

So I am supose to be the savior of either the Habs or Leafs? (frank) is it to late to go back to school and get an education?

ok obviously the bad outweigh the good right now or we'd be in the playoffs

pretty simple equation there really lol

so we agree on that.

my argument was to your posting specifically.. people would be more apt to take you seriously if you simply balanced some of your points with some positive commentary. I know its outweighed by the bad, but its not 100% bad

just offering up a lil piece of advice here.. just try to say a few positive things you actually think are note worthy to compliment your negatvie viewpoints of the team and you will find people will take you far more seriously

I'd love to have him on my team in the second pairing at $3.5-$4 mill against the cap with maybe an A on his jersey. He's not going to suddenly become, after 8 years, anything more than that.
- 1979AD

Sure, paired with a real stay at home, shutdown guy, insulated minutes, he can be effective.

But, not as the leader of the team.

What established vets/stars are gonna wanna come in and have him as their captain?

I dont get how people can sugar coat things for Dion..."he needs to simplify, he needs to grow into his game, he will improve improve as the team improves.."

He's and 8 year vet.

He is what he is, he's the worst captain I could possible think of out of almost every player in the NHL, goes to show again, Burkes judgement of player skills and attributes.

Listening to the 'higher ups' discuss this meltdown I think BB is going to have to alter his approach this summer. I'm not suggesting they get Parise or Suter but I think he has to take a big run at one or both. Yes he needs to go get a veteran goalie too but for better or worse he's going to have to offer one of those long term retirement contracts he hates so much.

Really how else does he change the team in any meaningful way this summer?

I will be quite pleased with him not changing the team in any meaningful way this summer other than adding futures. They need another lottery pick next year.

I think he should blow it to hell and go as hard as he can for Suter, Nash, Parise.

Oh sure, we have a consistent 35+ goal scorer, and another top line winger (Lupul), and a 2nd line centre who would be a 2nd line centre on a contending team. I'm not saying there's no positives. I'm just saying there's a hell of a lot more reason to be negative. Look at all the things we had to be positive about in recent years and how they're turning out.

Schenn
Kadri
Colborne
Reimer
Monster
Kulemin
Aulie

These were all pieces Leaf fans were excited about and each and every one of them has greatly disappointed this year.

- 1979AD

All except for Gus are young, had bad years and need time under a better system to improve their games. Most of these players are still rather inexpereinced and wouldnt have cracked the lineup full time with most above average teams. Patience.

schenn's game is already turning around under carlyle

kadri needs to be given a real shot.. and if he were in detroit for example (which is the ideal model) he wouldnt even ge a sniff at the NHL for another couple years

Colborne is a question mark.. he needs to find consistancy

goaltending needs help.. i agree there

Kulemin still matched all his stats save for point totals.. he's young enough where thats not really unusual

Aulie was traded for a nice 3rd line forward prospect.

see.. its how you look at things.. there are positives and negatives to every opinion.. and seeing things solely as one or the other will only serve to give you an unrealistic viewpoint

I wonder if the CBC will put all the Leafs games on national coverage next year. It would be awesome to give the Habs and Sens and Jets an equal share and make Toronto earn the prime slot again.

we can arguably afford to go after one high priced/skilled type of player....and mo...a goalie it should be.

people dont understand sometimes that their opinion is solely based on perspective

so the wider you allow your persepctive to be, the more valid your view point is.

i mean a good analogy would be driving a car in the winter with the windshield frosted over.. and you only took the time to scrape away one square foot directly in front of your face. you are unable to see the whole picture.. therefore whats relative to your viewpoint remains hidden from your perspective.

I'm sure that's all we'll hear about ....until they sign elsewhere.

Like you said unless the $$$ is different do you really want to play for/with this captain if you have the choice? Maybe ....but it's got to be a concern.

Lupul only got "hurt" when Carlyle took over, ending his almost perfect season under a different coach.

He requests a trade, he goes to the Devils with Schenn + for Parise, who signs here for life.

Everyone fine with that?

Ok.

If ownership is willing to eat some $$ then there's plenty of room for a couple of big contracts. A goalie is an absolute must.

I can be patient with Reimer. I think he needs to start in the A next year and build back his confidence from there. I see his struggles this year being largely mental.

Kadri and Colborne have 2 full years of AHL now. How long can you be patient, and have you not adjusted your idea of what their potentials are? All around the league guys from their draft class are starting to make impacts, ie Hodgson.

Obviously the Leafs don't believe in Colborne or why sign Grabo for 5 years? Kadri has consistently demonstrated he doesn't possess the heart and desire to make it at this level. I see him becoming an Ales Hemsky at the high end or a Rob Schremp at the low.

Schenn is obviously not worthy of a 5th overall pick let alone burning a 2nd to get him (traded up from 7 to 5).

My point is all of these prospects' values have decreased significantly since the start of the year. Can you argue with that? How are we supposed to be positive or optimistic or patient about that?
