Isn't that what I just said?
My point is pretty simple: They put themselves at a disadvantage in the past by overlooking the Q. Hell, at one point they didn't even have a full-time scout looking at it. It was a mistake.
Edit: I'll make it even clearer. They should scout the Q as much as they do for other leagues. Not less. - Pecafan Fan
and that's what Savard was saying yesterday. They have the advantage of having the Q in their backyard. Most of the league looks at the Q as a weaker league and some good prospects go out late in the 2nd round when the Habs could grab them early in the 2nd round. Savard was saying it doesn't mean you grab every Q player you can but more like give it a good look before you go draft a kid out of highschool in the US.
Guys like Giroux and Letang were drafted after the Habs picked someone not even close to being as good. |

A lot of his picks turned out to be pretty good NHLers actually.
not just in Montreal, of course. - Pecafan Fan

they identify team holes well enough and then start to fix it and then trade that asset off or mishandle it or allow some pc bullpoop to get in the way and then gone |

Some players dont play well under the microscope and pressure of TO and/or Montreal, a few actually do, but more often than naught most dont. Also, this has a lot to say about the habs as an organization abilities to help their players/prospects progression along. |

very true but the Habs overlooked the CHL for a few years, they were focusing on the US college system and Europe. |

exactly. Boucher seemed to be doing well. Habs have $ to spare give him a financial incentive to stay and keep up the good work, same with Muller. These guys are 20 yr old millionaires and they don't help them with the basic life adjustments? Ridiculous. |

The way I understood Molson yesterday, his comments were for the most part an admission of that.
Really surprised me when he said that the habs have sucked for the last 9 years. Thought he'd stick with the "we had a difficult season and had tough decisions to make so we fired Gauthier".
Instead, he got out of his way to take a swing at the Gainey regime too.
Surprsing, yet, refreshing. |

Really with the exception of 1-2 years he's not wrong and a lot of it has to deal with the musical chairs at the mgmt levels. |

Habs and Leafs don't have a valid reason not to have the best system in place for prospects, they have the money, money they will have to share with other teams as part of profit sharing. (frank)...invest that money in your players development system before you and fund the less fortunate teams like Columbus, Florida, Tampa... |

I think veterans should play a large role in this as well. Look at brière in Philly who took Giroux under his wing, and now Couturier. |
