By the way Savard was mouthing around yesterday, and the fact Molson said it would be important for the new GM to be a great communicator for the fans and media, I would say things are already changing. - Pecafan Fan

In comes his assistants/scouts.
Gauthier was the professional scout. So the trades Gainey made, were more than likely upon Gauthier's recommendation.
It's not really hard to figure out.... The 2 guys have been there for the last 9 years, and the team is poop.
Now, both are gone.

Believe it or not, Price isn't an all-star goaltender. One of you said in the Leafs thread that he was one of the top three goaltenders in the WORLD.
One strong season doesn't make you an elite goaltender. He's above-average. No doubt the team in front of him sucks but look at the terrible goals he's given this year. It happens on a regurlar basis. - thomas81
I agree Price is not a superstar yet. He's a little bit above-average. I would place in the "good" departement. |

I believe his point was that he like most GMs rely on their assistants and scouting staff, especially when they arent familiar with the players themselves. |

You don't think one bit that Brian Elliot is benefiting from Hitchcock's system? I mean come on, you don't go from barely being a back-up to being an All-Star. - thomas81
Hey, Hitchcock was available right from the start of the season.
And a 1.48 GAA, 943 sv% season can't only be because of the coach. |

You guys don't really know the results of many of those trades. People slam Bourque but I would have done that deal in a second. Cammalleri has a terrible terrible contract. |

The best news of the season so far. Kind of a little wary of what Serge Savard has in mind honestly. If he can help the team get better i am all for it, idgaf if he suggests they draft whomever from wherever, speaking whatever. |

Jeff Gorton want McD thrown in on that trade. He was also part of the team that fleeced Toronto for Rask. He is available. I like him. Francos will not. |

Most hab fans problem with this trade is the habs easily gave up the more talented player, and bourque is capable of disappearing for long stretches as well. |

If you're going to miss the playoffs with a poopty team, might as well lose enough to get a decent draft pick. There's simply no denying this. |

He simply said the fact that some NHL teams view the Q as an "inferior league" (even if the Sea Dogs are most likely going to repeat this season and possibly next year too) the Habs should use it at their advantage and make sure they find the best players available in this league. |

I didn't say so.
The system, however, does have an effect of those numbers. When you play a tight defensive game like the Blues, they don't allow very many GOOD scoring chances. I've rarely seen a team so solid it it's own zone. When Halak/Elliot face 25-30 shots, I'd say most of these are from the outside. |

The Gomez deal speaks for itself. There is no positive spin to it, zero. The Kaberle deal over the term is as bad. I don't mind the Bourque deal, more because of the cap implication and picking up what appears to be a decent overager prospect and a 2nd. Its just not enough to justify the other two trades or more importantly the unprofessional way in which he has dealt with his staff and players. |

I think it was the case for many years as well though. Good goalies and flashy forwards. I think its also changed quite substantially from 10 years ago. |
