Eric Engels: Pierre Gauthier Fired By the Canadiens

I don't get it. Why do it with 5 games remaining? Isn't it early to pull the plug on him after two years? It's hard to argue that he wasn't given very much to work with.

Bob Gainey made the mess.

Unlike Toronto, they decided that 4 years was too long.

Both of them made the mess, he was Gainey's assistant before.

Just like Gauthier, Burke wasn't given very much to work with when he got here. When Jason Blake and Nik Antropov are your two top wingers, you've got yourself a problem.

So you think he's the mastermind behind the Gomez fiasco?

Fact is, as Molson alluded to yesterday, Gauthier was just the continuation of the Gainey era (who was still involved with the team).

He clearly said that over the last 9 years, the team was simply not good enough.

Now, both are gone.

Gainey made the mess with Gauthier as an overpowered Assistant GM. You have to consider that it took BG time to recover from the tragedy of losing his daughter and that for a while, it was Gauthier pulling the strings mostly.

IMO, they're both equally responsible of this mess.

1997 Entry 11 1 Jason Ward
1997 Entry 37 2 Gregor Baumgartner
1997 Entry 65 3 Ilkka Mikkola
1997 Entry 91 4 Daniel Tetrault
1997 Entry 118 5 Konstantin Sidulov
1997 Entry 122 5 Gennady Razin
1997 Entry 145 6 Jonathan Desroches
1997 Entry 172 7 Ben Guite
1997 Entry 197 8 Petr Kubos
1997 Entry 202 8 Andrei Sidyakin
1997 Entry 228 9 Jarl Ygranes

This is clear.

Fact is, they overachieved with Jack Martin. If he was still the coach, the team probably wouldn't be dead last.

He also drafted Pacioretty in the same draft as Mcdonagh...
- Pecafan Fan

Habs should have drafted Letang, Giroux and Perron instead of Latendresse, Fischer and Pacioretty/MCDonagh.

Yet they'd still be out of the playoffs... In that optic, you've gotta call his firering a good move.

So surely he didn't approve of trading McDonagh.

This is the thing that creeps me out the most... We have a Quebec-first guy at the head of the team.

Amateur Scouting: Draft
Professional Scouting: Follow the other teams and identify the pieces you are interested in

They WANTED Gomez... and I still can't believe it.
