I've been saying it for a couple of years now. For whatever reason, NHL franchises in canada are a total mess. - prock
Too much pressure and the star players don't want that for the most part. |

Or just an effect of the economy in the small markets plus the addition of the cap. Its cyclical when all things are even. |

How interesting would it be if Caisse Depot bought it. |

you are in the spotlight in Canada. Jonathan Teows in Chicago is backpage news after the Chicago Bears, Cubs, White Sox, and Bulls for example. |

I would have gotten more of a laugh had they bought the Leafs from the OTPP. |

It plays a part as was mentioned earlier supporting these kids off ice is as important as on ice and it would seem teams like MTL have failed to provide them withan environment that deals with their unique situation. Van. seems to be ahead in that regard. |

That's great. But if you're trying to say its because they want to avoid the spotlight, if you take your average twenty something hockey player, I think you'd actually find the majority would love to walk around a canadian city like a hero. Like they dreamed of as a kid. When you've got less than 25% of teams being canadian, I think you would find a bigger proportion than that would be drawn to it. |

i think you would find a lot of players that just want to play the game and not have to talk to the media about why you haven't scored in 3 games or what you think of the shouting match at practice between plekanek and subban this morning. |

Different personalities will prefer or dislike it. Let's say half love it, half don't. 50% of players drawn to just 7 of 30 means a net advantage. |

If they both go 0-3 - lets hope the Habs pound the Leafs in the last game of the season at the Bell Centre |

Well, when you look just pre-lockout (and cap) several of the canadian teams had bigger profits, bigger budgets, and hence, more success. With that advantage gone, things will naturally cycle back around.
I'd have to go back and look at records, but correct me if I'm wrong, both ottawa and vancouver were both coming off a long string of bad years, and in an upswing. Amiright??
And ottawa still couldn't make it last. |
