One other thing I have come to terms with is we will never sign a Parise, Suter, Getzlaf, perry or any other elite talent.. We will have to draft our own, and then we can get the pieces around that player but no team is going to trade them to us, or they will not sign with TO.... maybe with a new GM..but under Burke and his stipulations..no way

This is totally unrelated to tonights game, but I was having a conversation with my Habs friend over lunch and we were discussing trade proposals between out two teams (we usually never come close to any agreements). He asked for Gardiner and I informed him Gardiner was untouchable. He responded with this:

To Montreal: Komisarek
Gardiner

To Toronto: Diaz
Leblanc
Montreal's 1st

I accepted for two primary reasons: Montreal's first, and the shedding of Komisarek's contract. He liked the deal because it makes the Habs D look like this:

Markov Subban
Gardiner Gorges
Emelin Komisarek
Kaberle

Any thoughts/opinions???

If your friend were montreals GM, he would be shot, then turned into poutine.

I stopped reading after I learned you associate with Habs fans and actually call them your friend.

This is based on what? Burke is supposed to be the "player's GM"... didn't you see him cry over putting Colton Orr on waivers? That and his self imposed holiday trade deadline, and look at the opportunity to make it he's given goalies like Cloutier and Gustavsson.

I would contest it's the media spotlight and team reputation that's keeping UFA's away more than the GM.

If he can right the ship and they can start looking competitive that'll help. Toronto, when things are good, is a great place to play ...light travel schedule ...close to family (for most) ...but when its bad it's got to be horrible for these guys.

Pure speculation but I wonder if Captain Dion has a negative impact on veteran signings as well. "Suck it Phaneuf" ...

You should send those quotes to Damian Cox, who wrote a ridiculous article (I use that term loosely) defending Burke and telling Leaf fans they've been impatient with Burke's rebuild so far.

I'd say that's a much more likely assumption than they don't want to play for a team with Burke as the GM.

I wasn't saying he was the only reason. But some of his self imposed rules work against signing elite players.

Give me your odds on these players ending up in Toronto within the next 3 years signed as a FA

Which self imposed rules work against signing elite players?

My odds:
Parise/Suter - 0% because we don't have the cap space. They're not going to sign 1 year deals, so it's this July or never.
Getzlaf/Perry - 75% if my 'masturbate for nate' plan as per above is implemented.

Why would any of those players want to come and play for a team that apparently has just started its rebuild.

If we hold half hour ceremonies to honour players like Domi, imagine what we would do for an actual future hall of famer that leads this team to the promised land. I think the literal possibility of being immortalized with a statue in the centre of the hockey universe would be a positive drawing point. It would for me anyway.

And with respect to Getz and Perry, if my 'masturbate for Nate' plan as per above, it would be a quick rebuild thanks to whoevever we get this year coupled with the second coming of Sidney Crosby on the roster.
