I don't think Homer is willing to commit to the asking price for Carle right now. He will have to weigh all his options and see what he can do before he makes that deal.
- stveshdy

He has to get Jake V resigned, and I think getting Grossmann back are pretty key.
Then what to do about Carle. And the issue of will Pronger try to come play again will be hanging over the decisions he has to make.
Should be interesting.

Carle may be priced out of coming back.

These are all issues that will be handled in due time but for right now everyone has one common goal, the Stanley Cup.

Thats the other issue at hand. Homer will throw draft picks around to acquire one if need be. He does whatever it takes to fill the need.

As much as I dont like it thats how he operates.

- stveshdy

He'll have to if that's what it takes, and that's definitely part of what it's going to take. It took that, a good prospect as a replacement, AND a roster forward to get an expiring (both in age and contract) top talent in Pronger. To get something less fleeting will be more costly.

That said, it's pretty important to get that defensive anchor. With or without Carle, the closest thing we have (i.e. Timonen) isn't going to be here that much longer, and I still have no confidence in a lasting Pronger return, if there is one at all.

Can you imagine them healthy right now?
Having Jvr and Mezz and Pronger, with Bryz finding his game?

They would be looking good right now. I said coming into the season their defense should be the strong point. We wouldnt have Grossmann or Kubina if Prongs was playing. At the most maybe one of them but not both.

If they can sign Grossmann to a new deal then it will be the silver lining in the Pronger injury.

Small silver lining but you take what you can get.

UMMM.....what happened in october, november, december, january, and feb.
has a direct consequence on where your team's playoff seed is.

Doesn't it?

- Downeaster

UMMM....that's exactly what i just said. and my point is the seeding doesn't really matter. you get in, and play who you play. what matters is team health, and the level of play they have at the very end of the season which is march and the first week of april.

Would you really expect a Tampa produced piece to have a Flyers angle?

Thomas, Brodeur, Osgood, Mike Vernon, Dominik Hasek, Evgeni Nabokov, Ed Belfour and Curtis Joseph all immediately started to suck on their 35th birthday. Every single (frank)ing one of them. Not a single exception.

Hartnell is a guy who gets attention because he does things that get noticed. He looks like Grizzly Adams on the ice. He gets into fights, he scores 20 goals almost every year, he throws his glove at guys on break aways. He's also a former top ten overall pick.

He does things to stand out.

He has 51 turnovers to Suter's 39. However he has more hits than Suter.

I think it'll be hilarious to hear people female dog about Suter if he signs here for $7mm and isn't a huge upgrade on Carle...because he won't be. Then we'll hear people complain about paying an elite price tag for a very good player.

Of course, some folks complain about the color of the tape a guy uses on his stick.

- Jsaquella

And a stat was posted the other night of giveaways that led directly to goals in the other thread.

Timonen= 7
Chara=6
Carle=3

I dont just mean the All-Star game. I'm talking about the NHL in general. I never hear his name mentioned as one of these top guys. Now I know he isnt in the class with Chara, Weber, Lidstrom, etc. but what about the next tier of players like Letang, Suter, Doughty, Boyle, etc.?

Hard to explain what im trying to say. He isnt put out there like others.

- stveshdy

That's because Carle isn't as good as Letang, Suter, or Doughty.

I'm just trying to figure out why Carle isnt marketed more like these other defenseman. If he is in that second tier of players and has been a very good defenseman I just dont understand why more people (nationally as well) dont recognize it.
- stveshdy

He's not even recognized enough in the twon he plays in, let alone nationally. Carle should have won the Barry Ashbee trophy last year, but he didn't. In my opinion of course.
