Why, exactly, should the Flyers market him? If he's making ASG's and a big name guy, it'll cost them more to keep him. The Flyers have little trouble selling tickets.
- Jsaquella

This goes beyond this year and him becoming a free agent now. The Flyers market Giroux and he will have to re-do his deal in the next few years.

Good hockey players dont come cheap.

All depends if they feel they have other options. As Jsaq said, not much available this year. Flyers can't afford to let him walk and not replace him.
- funmaster18

The Flyers will replace him if he walks just might not be on the level you expect.

Because Giroux is a star and Carle isn't would be my guess.

Missing my point. Carle has been here awhile and I dont see them market him in any way. I see Simmonds and Voracek more than Carle. I think its wrong that this guy doesnt get any pub.

The flyers need improve the defense not go backwards.
Keep Carle or upgrade. That would be my plan.

Wife is. I'm imported so to me it is meh. In fact I have not paid much attention to college BB since I became a hard - core hockey fan. It will be NUTS here on game day though. If they win it all I am heading for the safety of my basement, just like when the tornadoes rolled through. It will be absolute chaos. Like Habs fans after having their sense of entitlement crushed with a first round loss, only happy. They were burning couches in the streets last week just for making the final four.

I would be surprised if Louisville played Kentucky within 10 points. Kentucky is just loaded with talent. Latest NBA mock draft has four Kentucky kids going in the top 15 picks. I despise Calipari, he's a mercenary recruiting these one and done uber talents. I'm hoping he gets beat in New Orleans, I just can't see it happening unfortunately.

Dont assume that losing Carle and not bringing in a big name is a step in the wrong direction. You never know how a player is going to fit into your team and the style he brings. I honestly never expected Grossmann to be this good.

Not missing the point, just a bad example. It's a no brainier why Giroux is marketed and Carle is not. With Voracek and Simmonds, I think they were just trying to energize the fanbase and sell them in trading their top 2 centers at the time.

Carle is quiet off and on the ice. Not the kind of player teams want to sell to the fan base. I don't care who they market anyway, as long as they play well.

I dont just mean the All-Star game. I'm talking about the NHL in general. I never hear his name mentioned as one of these top guys. Now I know he isnt in the class with Chara, Weber, Lidstrom, etc. but what about the next tier of players like Letang, Suter, Doughty, Boyle, etc.?
- stveshdy

The biggest problem with Carle is that he has no sexy in his game. This isnt a knock either. Look at at all of the things that really draw the attention.

Blazing speed: nope.. but he is a solid skater.
Rocket/Great point shot: Nope.. but he can manage a few every now and then.
Big hitter: get real
Beautiful passer: Yes and no. Yes in the sense that he has a very solid first pass.. no in the sense that he isnt making passes like other guys in the league with big names (Letang, Karlson, Doughty)
Shutdown D-man: No.. he is a very solid d-man, and can match up against tough competition, but he isnt a true shutdown d-man.
Offensive D-man.. Well he put up something like 70 points over the past 2 seasons so he has some offense, but 65 of those 70 points are off assists.. and god only knows how many of them are secondary assists. Look at a guy like Letang. He has 17 goals and 69 assists in his last 129 games. That is an offensive d-man.

Carle is very sufficient in nearly all facets of the game, but he doesnt standout among the best any single part.

I didn't say anything about a big name, just that they need to upgrade or keep him. I'd be thrilled with an under the radar pickup at ends up being better.

I think they might be willing to go to $5.25mm on a 2 or 3 year deal...I doubt he gets a long term deal for that big a hit.
- Jsaquella

He might from a team like Edmonton, though.

I'd stay in Philly, but if someone gives him a 5 yr ~27M deal, then he might go.

I only mentioned Giroux bc he will need a new contract in a few years and could be in the same position as Carle. So should the Flyers not market him bc he will take less money?

If thats the case the Flyers should be ashamed of themselves. Thats poor marketing.

I understand that. So who would be considered an upgrade over Carle if he were to walk? This is where a name means less to me than a player who can fill a role and fits what your trying to do.

I have no idea. Never mentioned the marketing thing versus his contract status so I don't know and don't think it's really worth getting into.

I don't k ow who his replacement would be. All I know is I don't want to go over 5.5 for him and wouldn't go 7 for Suter. maybe there is a guy under the radar that can do really well, like how they got a guy like Grossman that no one knew well.
