Ya,
I like McCormick ok as a player
But you don't overpay like that for 4th liners...
They are replaceable with guys making 1mil and under
Way too much for him... And way too long a deal

He scored 8 goals last season and 1 in the playoffs. His deal is consistent with Leino's, as is the drop off in performance.

Congratulations to Drew Stafford for distancing himself from those 2.

Nice to see Drew rounding back into form. He certainly has improved his play of late. Not sure if it's just that he likes his linemates or what. But, I'm all for anything that helps this teams offensive woes.

It's not fair to Stafford to say that it's all Ennis and Foligno... But rarely does Stafford just will himself to offensive greatness. The other two guys are playing like their hair is on fire and Drew is playing along. Not leading.

Ennis has pretty much been playing like his hair is on fire since coming back from his second injury. But, he's still way more effective at center than wing.

Foligno might be the reason Stafford's play has elevated. Stafford sees him crashing the net and has decided to do so as well.

Stafford has been the primary assist guy or the scoring guy. It ususally takes two to make a goal. If the ONLY thing he was doing is scoring goals from the dandy feeds from Foligno or Ennis I would agree. You can't say that two are playing with their hair is on fire without giving credit to Drew as well. They are playing at a high level.
I agree that Stafford may not be leading that group, but who is? They are working as an effective team. Teamwork on that small of a scale doesn't require a leader, it requires an understading of your linemates, trust and confidence. For some reason that line has clicked. Enjoy it.

I think it helps that he's playing with the younger guys. He's the youngest of the "core," and least experienced, especially with handling the pressures of being counted on to put up consistent numbers that came with his new contract. The rest of the core are more in tune with being consistent professionals, and I think are more susceptible to getting lazy due to their comfortable situation. I think Stafford had begun trying to act and play like the older guys.

The youth coming in are still fighting to stay permanent fixtures in the lineup, even Ennis, and playing with them has helped Stafford worry a little more about just playing hockey. Whatever happened, I like it, but I would like it if Stafford was leading the play on that line a little more. Ennis is clearly the one running the show when they're on the ice.

I'm enjoying it for sure. Stafford is the only guy on that line with an A on his sweater. I like him as a player, but not as a leader. That's my point. If the guys around him are doing well, he's ready and able to jump in for the ride. When things aren't going well, he doesn't seem to have the "it" factor to pick up his game or improve those around him. Is it crazy to expect a team captain to lead?

You can replace Stafford with Vanek too.

This isnt a bad thing. Stafford isnt a puck carrier. Ennis is a puck carrier. I have no problems with Ennis controlling the puck the majority of the time, he needs to. Stafford is a finisher.

I know Ennis is the puck carrier, but he also seems to be the guy who brings the energy. Stafford as the guy on the line with an A on his shirt ought to be the one bringing the energy, and leading the line by dominating his position. Despite the points he's put up, he still needs improvement in a lot of areas, where I've found very few flaws with Ennis's game lately that aren't size related.

Maybe he is and we don't know it. Maybe he needed a line that was 'his' and not roys or vaneks. Ownership breeds performance. It's true in the business world.

Hey Ray remeber about 7 weeks ago(all star break) when I said I thought the Sabres would be fine? I said for no apparent reason this team would turn things around? Even if they didn't make playoffs based on the earlier record they would be good again.

You said I was crazy. You said "based on what? " I said i just felt it. Here we are.

Here we almost are. They have a chance, alot of work to get that chance, but still only a chance. If they make the most of it that would show me something.

You think we're fine? Math is still against us. They have turned things around for sure, but they are still in the hole, even if it's just knee deep right now.

Speaking of which... jury duty. Waiting, followed by more waiting, followed by yeah. More waiting.
