Really reaching for complaints on that one...

Let's waive Martin because his initials are the same as Milbury's.

Actually that is a good idea maybe if we get rid of all teh bad kharma initials then some good would come out of this team.

If we move to Brooklyn I say or name should be changed to the New York Asbestos. Ah better then fishermen I tell you

i dont think you totally subscribe to the idea that suffolk is a good (even adequate option), im also willing to bet you live in suffolk (perhaps some wishful thinking instead of being logical about it?). i know that comes off as being a dbag but lets think about it.

a) there are tons of fans coming from the NYC/Jersey/Connecticut that would have an added on 25-30 minute commute that could severely sway a decision in going to the game or not
b) yes, in the isles glory days they had no problem selling out...but thats obvious. its when the team is poopty they need to find ways to still sell tickets. being more centralized would get PLENTY more tickets; strength in numbers. and im sure there are people coming from the city who dont go to the colliseum when they suck, needless to say they sure as hell arent going to go further east.
c) dont discredit how important sponsorships are
d) location location location-- the rangers are always a hot ticket because they are based in midtown...brooklyn is no midtown but suffolk is no brooklyn.
e) PLEASE dont compare having subways which come every 2-3 minutes, parking lots, buses and easy accessibility to the barclays with the inconvenience of getting to suffolk.

suffolk is a really nice place but moving there would be a death sentence

I seriously think you're overestimating the amount of fanbase the Isles have off of the island that are willing to travel to the games. Yes, I do live in Suffolk, and probably will go to FAR fewer games if they move to Brooklyn. I think I speak for a lot of Suffolk residents when I say that. i feel strongly that you'd lose more attendance from Suffolk fans by moving to Brooklyn than you will gain in city fans. That might not be true for the first few years, but after the novelty wears off, I don't see it. I think the Rangers have a lock on city fans. For what it's worth, I agreed with you on the corporate sponsorship part, so I'm not underestimating the value there.

Think about it....the LI Ducks, who are in an even more remote location, playing minor league ball average 5500 fans. I'm pretty sure an NHL team in a great arena could triple that in Suffolk. Afterall, the Pilgrim state location is only about 10 or 15 minutes from the Nassau/Suffolk border.

Again, not the greatest scenario, but I think it could work.

I say Suffolk county but you have to choose your spots. I am thinking Orient point. Ferry goes right there and it is only like 4 hours from the city. It would be a beautiful drive I tell you. Or wait stay with me here downtown Bellport. I mean look it worked for New JErsey to put an arena in the hood why not the Isles. Or right on the beach some where. All the surfer dudes and body surfers would love that. See Suffolk just makes sense

I agree I live in Eastern Suffolk and the Collisieum is a hike itself, if they moved to Brooklyn I doubt I could make a game. I mean who else is going to boo certain players and get thrown out. My life is ruined

I live on the south shore of Nassau and I can tell you right now, I'd rarely ever go to a game if they moved out to Suffolk. The commute from here is 20 minutes less and the building is right there within walking distance. Obviously that has no bearing on you Suffolk County folk, but I was just throwing the middle of the road folk scenario in there.

I think we all know it won't be Suffolk but for (friendly) arguments sake...you could hop right on Ocean Parkway, take it to the end and about 10 minutes north and you'd be at the arena, assuming it were at Pilgrim. Assuming you live in Island Park like it says under your name. I obviously don't know about your family/work situations but by bypassing all the SS traffic it wouldn't be all that bad of a ride.

needless to say that since i live in queens, even if i WANTED to go to games, i wouldnt be able to as i wouldnt make it earlier than the start of the 2nd period. so there it is. basically anything east of BringBackBalky would be ABLE to get to games. everything west of him, sorry.

sounds like a bad business plan.

Charlie, i dont disagree with your arguments at all, they are all factual and legit; i just think we have different opinions on how to sell the most tickets possible with everything considered; well agree to disagree (but im sure itll come up again in a few weeks)

True, but not taking traffic into account it's already a 45 minute drive. Same amount of time to get to BK on the train so if I want to drink my face off I can let someone else drive me. Of course if they were in Suffolk I'd still go, just not as often. It really sucks that with a few games left in the season that this is the topic of conversation on here most days. Blah!

I'm sure it'll come up for the next 3 years until the 2015 season...that is unless the asbestos kicks them out sooner!

Damn, I wish for once we can be talking about playoff hockey at the end of a regular season and not:

1) our arena sucks
2) no free agents want to sign here
3) does DP really think he's a number one still?
4) Snow and Wang suck
5) Capuano sucks
6) KC, Quebec, Seattle
7) who are we gonna pick in the top 5 this year.

An interesting article just surfaced in Newsday. The new head of Suffolk County's economic development agency was the former president of Ratner and oversaw the Atlantic Yards project. I found the timing of the article interesting considering what we were just talkng about.

Yeah I saw that too. Wonder if there's any connection there, kind of a weird coincidence.

Not sure, but the way politics and business work, it's suspicious at the very least. Not sure why Ratner would want his hands in developing 2 places so close to each other though. But if this helps the Islanders in any way and Wang is considering Suffolk, then she's not only experienced in a build out of this magnitiude, but also very knowledgable in the public/private funding area according to the article.

WOW...what a sad sack this once storied franchise has become! It's embarassing to be honest. I understand there are a lot of underlying issues, but when will it end?

What's next you say. Well, another lottery pick...I guess.

I know, teams usually have AT LEAST 5 more cups than Vancouver. We really are a joke.
