If the asbestos issue is bad enough to let Wang break the lease, the team will be gone from New York. That lease is the only thing preventing other potential buyers from making offers on the franchise to Wang. If the lease is a non-factor, expect lots of offers from buyers to take the team off Wang's hands, buyers from other areas that will move team out of New York.

I think the asbestos situation is getting blown way out of proportion. It's obviously a serious matter, but everyone seems to forget that it was raining asbestos from the Garden ceiling last year..enough to cancel a Knicks game. It's gonna happen with old arenas, the important thing is fixing it ASAP.

Asbestos is fine as long as you leave it alone, and it doesn't get wet. But if the building is covered in it, and the employees and different agencies make enough noise about this... then it has to be taken care of.

Tell the workers to walk off the job... that might get some attention.

WOW...what a sad sack this once storied franchise has become! It's embarassing to be honest. I understand there are a lot of underlying issues, but when will it end?

What's next you say. Well, another lottery pick...I guess.

??????? Really?
The Wings don't want any part of the Isles.
We've owned you for about three years now.
Silly of you to suggest anything that would give us more games against you.

At least we don't set our city on fire b/c our team is weak in the clutch.
How's Danielle's head? Maybe he made a stupid remark to Keith, too?

Oh yeah, I wasn't so much saying asbestos itself isn't a big deal. More so that the fans and media around the league that are crapping all over the Islanders for this situation seem to conveniently forget that the Rangers arena had the same issue just a year ago and it was hard made a story of.

I think there is something to the Brooklyn possibility, but as BD Gallof said, Wang's going to need profit assurances, some kind of deal with the arena that will guarantee that he will make a profit from moving the team there. If he doesn't get that, there's no way he's rolling the dice on moving the team to Bklyn and being a tenant again with no guarantee that he'll make money. He'd be better off moving the team somewhere like Quebec or selling to someone else.
- Jethro09

I could see it possibly going two ways...Maybe Ratner takes an ownership stake, but not complete ownership, in the Isles to relieve Wang of some of the year-to-year expenses, but Wang still get to share some of the revenue. Or maybe some arrangement is worked out where Wang buys into the arena itself and in turn gets a share of revenue from all events there.

I don't buy BD saying Ratner's appearance was not really a big deal because he didn't say anything new (edit -- although he's obviously more in the know than I am...). Ratner just appearing and doing the interview seems like a big deal to me...because why would he even waste his time taking the ride out there in the first place, and why would Wang even let him on the broadcast, if there's no interest from both parties?

Dee Karl: And Now What?
Things were getting better -- then something else.

- Dee Karl

Not sure what is/was getting better, unless you consider Cappy's decision to further stall the development of Nino, while leaving Pandawful in, is the equivalent of adding a few more nails in his coffin. See how he gave way to Doug Weight's explosion at the refs from Theodore's stick throwing/missed called?

If it WAS Cappy's team, he's shoulda told Dougie(all due respect) to STFU!
Saw Weight's lips and Im shocked he didn't get a penalty from the refs for what he was saying.

As much as I would like to see the Rags bumped outta first, I only hope Pens get it through an OT or Shoot out.

The area they talked about, Pilgrim state, I don't think would be so bad it's not too far out and it's in between Southern state and the LIE off of the Sag, and only about 25 minutes from the Coliseum, wouldn't be terrible and a few more tax dollars out here lol
- beuka23

actually it would be a terrible move.

1) 25 minutes away from an already hard to get to arena
2) when games start at 7, coming from midtown it makes it almost impossible to get to the arena in time for puckdrop and if somehow you do, youre hauling ass.
3) once again there is no answer to mass transit
4) moving even further out east and isolating themselves even more.

ill stop.....bottomline, suffolk is an AWFUL idea

1) Deer Park train station is right there
2) Move home game start times to 7:30
3) see 1
4) can't argue that, but only 1 point doesn't make it an AWFUL idea.
edit - suffolk residents have been travelling to Nassau for games forever, why not reverse it? I still don't think the city fans are that big of a deal. Corporate support might be the only legit argument. i don't see the Islanders "recruiting" city fans. We didn't need them inthe early 80's when the arena was ALWAYS packed.

The DP train station isn't as close as you'd think. Definitely not within walking distance.

Maybe not walking distance, but I'm sure they could shuttle people on game night. It would probably be 5 minutes tops. There's ways around it. They would probably just need to make a new exit since that Pine Aire Drive exit is a nightmare. Not saying it's a perfect solution, but I don't think it's AWFUL.

I don't think it's awful either, but there are definitely major issues. I used to work back in that Heartland Business area so every day I drove in over the tracks at the DP train station and every night I left cutting through Pilgrim to get back to the Sag. There's definitely some room for an arena, I'm not sure about parking though. A shuttle is certainly an option, but I'm not sure people are going to be thrilled with the idea of sitting on a train for 45 minutes to an hour and a half and then getting corralled into a cattle car to drive over to the arena, and then doing the same on the way home.

But you're right, the major problem would be the roads. I said it a few posts ago..the roads inside Pilgrim are not only in horrendous condition, but they are hardly wide enough for two cars to pass each other. Not to mention both the entrances to Pilgrim from the Sag and Pine Aire Drive are both atrocious and would have to be significantly widened to accommodate the huge amount of traffic that would be flooding in there.

Moving forward, do we REALLY want anything with the initials/acronym DP associated with this team? Bad karma....

Really reaching for complaints on that one...

i dont think you totally subscribe to the idea that suffolk is a good (even adequate option), im also willing to bet you live in suffolk (perhaps some wishful thinking instead of being logical about it?). i know that comes off as being a dbag but lets think about it.

a) there are tons of fans coming from the NYC/Jersey/Connecticut that would have an added on 25-30 minute commute that could severely sway a decision in going to the game or not
b) yes, in the isles glory days they had no problem selling out...but thats obvious. its when the team is poopty they need to find ways to still sell tickets. being more centralized would get PLENTY more tickets; strength in numbers. and im sure there are people coming from the city who dont go to the colliseum when they suck, needless to say they sure as hell arent going to go further east.
c) dont discredit how important sponsorships are
d) location location location-- the rangers are always a hot ticket because they are based in midtown...brooklyn is no midtown but suffolk is no brooklyn.
e) PLEASE dont compare having subways which come every 2-3 minutes, parking lots, buses and easy accessibility to the barclays with the inconvenience of getting to suffolk.

suffolk is a really nice place but moving there would be a death sentence
