Go and Join the who is a better player argument in Eks blog. Stamkos or Giroux?

I argued, and rightly so, that Stamkos is a better scorer, but Giroux is the better player.

- MBFlyerfan

I really have to fight through it reading posts on the main blog, too many kids. But, it's actually a pretty good comparison. I just can't believe the overwhelming responses for Stamkos. He is no doubt a better sniper, in fact he's the best in hockey, but if I'm starting a team I take Giroux 10 times out of 10. He's better at every other aspect of the game. Plus, if Giroux shot more, he would score more. Crazy I know.

So Nay to the Refs stat sheet?
- roenick97

The thought behind it is fine, but I'll say nay. It seems to be trying to put an objective metric on a subjective thing. Not all blown calls are equal, and two games, officiated differently, can both be considered called well. I think the referees who do well and, more often, the referees who do not do well are known to both fans and the NHL. The referees that are known to miss calls or officiate inconsistently within a game will not (or at least, should not) get the job come the most important games of the year.

If anything, I think holding a public sheet of offenses by officials would only increase fan displeasure with the product, and would lead to increased controversy over poor calls. Mistakes happen, and habitual mistake makers are known. I think that's enough.

If they treated it like our jobs guys like Peel, Auger and Jackson would be fired because they're just not good at their jobs. It's up to Fraser or whoever is in charge of officials these days to hold these clowns accountable and find better replacements if need be. Hockey is fast, calls will be missed, but the officiating can still be better.

I agree they could do more to replace regularly poor officials. I know I groan everytime I hear Auger or Jackson is calling the shots. I don't think a public mistake sheet would do much to help that though. It's just a case of the NHL needing to hold its officials to higher standards.

No I agree, I have a hard time finding anything positive about making their mistakes public fodder. People that watch hockey enough know who the culprits are.

Imagine Lindros and Foppa on the same team for 15 years. Holy (frank) they would have won 5 cups.

No, because there's not remotely a justification. You're telling me there's no one on that team (heck, Malkin fighting through injuries) that would be a better choice?

It's Terry Gregson.

And how would you do it anyway. You don't have a camera on every part of the ice at every time. You don't know what the official on the ice can see or where he is looking at every second. There's no way to know what he saw and didn't call or what he didn't see.

Bryz!!!
Love his interviews.
And the questions keep on coming. Tim P, finally looked like he was getting it because he didn't really ask too many "I" questions.

At this point I think he is just toying with the media.

When someone calls a high stick that doesn't touch the player you don't need a camera on every part of the ice. When someone waves off a goal because he thinks the forward made contact with the goalie when he didn't you don't need additional cameras for that either. I'm not talking missed calls, I'm talking wrong calls.

Huh?

I'm saying someone should be reviewing all the calls made and fire the guys who keep making the wrong ones on a consistant basis. This has nothing to do with in-game calls.
