it's a catch 22. do you want ties, shootouts or continuous overtime in the regular season? i think shootouts is a nice compromise for the regular season.
- flyerscup2011

Ties. NHL had ties for almost 100 years. Never had any issue with them.

I love that the Rangers lost night. They could be running out of gas and I really hope this is the case. I understand we could have had a playoff birth had they won but we're going to the dance no matter what, so what does it matter if it's now or in a couple of days from now?

Unfortunately, I don't think that's how it going to go. Malkin and possibly Lundqvist are ahead of Giroux for the Hart in my opinion right now.
- MJL

I know you're right and I completely agree but I do wish the hart worked this way. Obviously the league leader in points should win a major reward but I think the league's best all around player for that season should as well.

Funny you said this today. Lundqvuist gave up 3 bad goals in the loss today. Not horrendous, but certainly bad by his standards. All on odd man rushes, but they were not tap-ins. He had time to get set and all were unscreened shots.
- PT21

Here's hoping the wheels are coming off. The Rangers can have 24/7 and the Winter Classic. I want a Stanley Cup!

i kinda like the shootout, but i think winning it should be devalued. i say 3 pts for a reg or ot win 2 for a s/o win 1 for an ot or s/o loss

THat might be the single biggest screw up on draft day this team ever made.
- JoeRussomanno

Not even close to the worst. Not even within a $50 cab ride of the worst.

Ryan Sittler. Jason Bowen. Jeff Woywitka. Maxime Ouellet.

Ricci was the safe pick. Jagr, well nobody knew if he'd be free to play in the NHL as soon as he was. Czechoslovakia was still communist at the time and there was zero guarantee that Jagr'd be available.

Actually, if they fall its most likely they take 4rth. Good that we match up so well against them, huh?

Blueshirts did not play bad. Miller is playing really well now and there were a few circus like scrambles in front of the Sabres net where the puck stayed out.

I hate it. I despise it. The shootout is my least favorite thing about the sport.

IMO, deciding the result of a game by not playing the game is dumb. It's like playing Poker, and when the pot is big enough, changing to War.

I'll put it another way. In the last two seasons, the Flyers and Bruins have played in the playoffs. Arguably the two most important players on those teams were Chris Pronger and Zdeno Chara. How often do they participate in shootouts?

Anything that makes a team's most important skater nothing more than a spectator should never be used to decide the result of a game.

I'm okay with the Flyers squaring off with anyone in the league right now. No matter who we face, that team is going to be scary to us. The Pens, Rangers and Bruins are all tough teams and even the Devils and Panthers might surprise us should we face them. There just isn't an easy team for the Flyers to faceoff against right now but at the same time, we can't discount our team. I don't think anyone wants to face us either due to how well Bryz is playing and how well a season Giroux and Hartnell have had.

Also, the NHL is the only league where a team can lose more games than they win and still be considered "Over .500." Calgary is 34-26-15. That's 41 Seravalling losses, but they're considered over .500.

I meant as far as skipping a guy when you had him withing grasp. I know all those other guys were terrible picks but was there a Jaromir Jagr still on the board when they picked them?

If Lundqvist keeps giving up 3-4 goals a game for the rest of the season does he still win the Vezina?

If that team is ever the Penguins, I will be so surprised I'd probably stop being silly for like... an hour or so.

There was a Sergei Gonchar for Sittler and Bowen. There was a Henrik Zetterberg when Ouelett was taken, as well as a Marty Havlat.

Again, most kids from Eastern Bloc countries were not freed to come to the NHL until their late 20's or early 30's. Everyone knew Jagr had massive skill, but teams were concenred they'd have to wait 7 or 8 years for him.

True, but the Pens rolled the dice in a major way for Jagr. Around that time guys had to defect to play in North America. The Flyers were coming off their worst year in decades. They needed immediate impact.

Ricci was seen-sigh-as a Bobby Clarke type player.

My point is, you have to take all factors into consideration.
