Having a #1 center in Spezza, a 30 goal scorer in Michalek, a good captain in Alfreddson and a 70 point d-man sure helped out.

There will be some team that shines next year, but there are more teams that are expected to do better every year and every year there are a bunch that just don't do enough to get better.

I think MTL problem is they dont have scorers, and if they can change that in the offseason they will make the playoffs or just shy out of it.

Here's what I never got:

There are teams that have had more lottery picks than us that have gone on to win the cup.

Seems to me everyone will just have so much more ammo if they just cool their jets on talking poop about the oilers for two years or so. If we still suck then, it will be utterly indefensible.

Whereas, if they speak up now, they'll stand a decent chance to be eating their words in the worst way if the oilers rebuild is successful.

Being that it's not evident the oilers are going to either win a cup or keep sucking, everyone should just sit tight and think about the promised land of gloating, whichever side ends up getting the last laugh.

Problem is there isn't a whole lot of goal scorers in the UFA market. Even if they were MTL isn't exactly the first choice for most. The taxes are killer and that alone hurts their chance.

One guy Price, he is so good. Look at Kipper in cow town, if they dont have him they would be in last place. Like I said there forwards have not been playing well, all they really need is a spezza type player. or more guys who can put the puck in the net.

It's just that easy huh??? Murray has never made the dumbassed move Gauthier has made. Murray had a base of good/great prospects in place before last year. get over the fact it's Montreal. How much has that helped Toronto? who is the only team in the NHL that could say they have the history/fame of the Habs. Players sign where they have a chance to win. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if Price gave them the Roy treatment this summer and demanded a trade out of Montreal because the pressure there is doubled over Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, Winnepeg why because whenthefans shyt on ya its in english and in french. the Habs carry the weight of a fledgling nation on them Quebec. They have a press corp that the players/coaches demands speak french over english. No this has more to do with over a couple players a general manager who has the media savvy to hold the press at bay and the exp to get the team back on track, a coach that has more demands on his time and restrictions than any other team in the NHL. It's too important to get it right the first time around there.

so kipper has calgary 14pts ahead of montreal and still in a playoff hunt, so you are pretty much saying kipper > price, but earlier you said price was the best in the league and not to argue it or you would look dumb. seems like you are arguing with yerself right now and looking very, very dumb

That's not really a plan and given how well MTL is at hiring coaches it's quit apparent the odds of them finding the coach to get more out of less is slim to none. Especially since they will alienate 90% of the Candidates for not speaking Engrish.
