7.7 per year was mikes offer..Here are this years compensation rates..With a cap increase the rate will likely be 8mil+ for 4 first rounders next season(offersheets this summer apply to next years rates).....

$6,268,175 — $7,835,219: Two first-round picks, a second and third
$7,835,219 and higher: Four first-round picks...

Just saying...

that formula only works for offers under 5 years. The total value of the contract is divided by a maximum of 5 years, meaning that for the sake of the picks, it would be a 15.4M cap hit.... which safely falls into the 4 1sts section.

Interesting..... Good for Hamilton. He's got the grit that Crabb doesn't.

So Who is injured now to necessitate the call ups?

The maximum number of years the contract can be divided up is 5 years for the purpose of offer sheet compensation.

If the prior club declines its Right to First Refusal, it will be entitled to draft pick compensation based on the annual annual value of the new deal. This is determined by dividing total compensation by the less of the number of years of the offer sheet, or five (this discourages long-term offer sheets in some cases).

which moves the contract into:

$7,835,219 and higher: Four first-round picks

and considering the cap hit for compensation purposes would be 15.4 mil, it'll be 4 picks, no matter how you look at it.

Seriously though, the Leafs need to give up on Reimer as being a #1 goalie who can help us challenge for a Cup at anytime in his future career.

He was never expected to be anything more than a backup and he had a good 6 weeks when the Leafs were out of the playoffs last year.

Now he is back to his normal self and that is being an average goalie who can play great for stretches but over the coarse of a full season is obviously another story.

The sooner everybody in the Leafs office recognizes this, the sooner this team will get back on track.

For one, the only reason he was called up last year was because everybody was injured.

The rest is common knowledge, look it up.

which is why hes rated an 8.0C on hockeysfuture.com? he definitely has #1 potential, he just needs a vet mentor who will be able to give him confidence. when reimer goes to the bench, no one says anything to him cause they don't know what to say. gustavsson doesn't even look at him cause he doesn't know what to say either. give him a guy who can help him relax and stay focused and he should be fine. didn't you notice his best games were when giguere was backing him up and not gustavsson last year? leave him alone, he'll be fine
