I actually did a project on that in college and had to present it during a press conference. Only thing it was a baseball team. After doing tons of research it actually isnt bad to have a team their. However, the problem is Vegas has more tourist then anything and its hard to get a fan base with all the other activities going on there.

That's what I mean...I'm sure that they'd draw well when they play a Flyers or Rangers or team that draws well at home and has people on vacation in Vegas...but imagine a Florida-Las Vegas game...

Absolutely. I think you need to have an owner with deep pockets. The sponsorships would also help bc their is so much competition their you would think the business would try to one up and get as much pub as possible.

What's the story behind ASF losing his beat gig? One of the few good guys.
- tangent_man

Dispute with management. He's still there, though, doing other assignments. Rob Parent, who has done the Flyers beat before, is back for rest of this season. It is unlikely that Anthony will be covering the Flyers again in the future, but never say never. With Rob, it probably depends on whether he wants to be doing beat work again for the long haul.

The flyers are due for a "the games not in question win". Something in the area of a 4-1 or 5-2 win.
- bird_dog

Theyve also been due a cup for 30+ years, so hopefully that comes soon too

Bill, do you think we will see Andre or JVR at all this season? If....IF we made the cup, could they be back?

I wouldn't want to rely heavily on tourist dollars to help fill the rink 41 times a year plus playoffs.
Is there a big hockey market in Vegas?

I think JVR could be back by late in the first round, certainly by the second if they team wins in the ECQF. He was still on crutches on Sunday, however, but supposedly is still within the original timetable of about 6 weeks from the time of his surgery on March 6.

With Meszaros, we'll see. The 6-8 week timetable only starts now, and that is assuming no setbacks. Backs are trickier.

May miss round 1 I'm thinking, I forget the date he went out. Since it's not a hard and fast rule 6-8 weeks that seems about right.

Im not sure what bone in his foot is broken (my guess is the navicular), but since he did have surgery.. I think that the 4-6 week outlook is a pretty accurate one.

6-8 weeks is actually a bit of a longer estimate.

EDIT: I should be more specific here.. While it is a longer estimate, it is definitely not out of the realm of possibility. Especially with the navicular.

I believe Carter missed 6 weeks with his...

Frank Seravalli says Ilya Bryagalov is the only goalie the Flyers have under contract for next year at the NHL or AHL level.

When did they trade Bob and Hovinen? Oh, in the next paragraph Frank contradicts himself. Great work, Frank.

He says he fixed it on twitter, but he did not. My comment was also deleted from the Philly.com website.

He's top notch. And then he discusses the status of Backlund, Bacashiua, and Leighton. All of which are pretty much irrelevant to the future. Incompetence unleashed.

Just read before you submit. And use editors for the web stuff. And include fact checking in some editorial layer. I know a copyeditor at the Inky and sometimes he used to get stuck with sports (he's not a sports guy). So it isn't typically on the copyeditor's plate to factcheck.

Simmonds going to get that dirty but pretty goal tonight, possibly on the power play. Waiting for Briere to have a multi-point night also. Can't believe we have less than 10 games left until I give up on my college work so I can drink beers and watch playoff hockey every night.

I'm more concerned about this years playoffs, not who tends net for the phantoms next year.

I had a dream Pronger came back for the playoffs, much to the chagrin of the entire Eastern Conference. No one saw this at all because management told him to go away, shutting him down for the entire season. Then out of the blue, and out of the eye of the media, he began skating in secret--only to come back for game one of the ECQFs against the Pens.
