i doubt that they will drop off that much, there is a reason why they are 7th and at one point 2nd, and the atlantic is a beast (would be 1-4 if going by pts) and ottowa is getting their #1 goalie back and spezza was out vs the devils and ottowa has played very well against top teams like boston

its possible that they crash, i just dont see them dropping far enough especially with 8-9 games left, and far enough for buffalo to pass them

There is also a reason they are only 4 points up on 9th. They have been less than average the last month or so and I see no reason for them to turn it around. I have no idea if Buffalo or Winnipeg catch them but it wouldn't surprise me at all.
