Because the islanders already have the same type of players who are signed to contracts already. So unless they move someone, there is no reason to resign PA for what he is going to get. If you think he's a first line player, then by all means, your argument makes sense. But, to me, they arent winning and are in need of physical play. Call him the odd man out, but I dont think he fits on this team unless he is signed for a reasonable amount. IF, he was going to sign for a reasonable amount then yes, he'd be perfect for a 2nd line but he's going to test the waters, and he will get paid.

I agree with you that the Isles top 6 needs a change. I just think Parenteau plays harder then okposo and grabner and obviously produces a ton more. He produced on the 2nd line too. Obviously with JT you are going to produce more. Great players make everyone around them better.

Someone said it before, the same top 6 next year will probably bring you the same results unless Grabner and Okposo get their heads out of their ass. I love Frans Nielson but we probably all agree he is a perfect 3rd line center.

So I guess my point is if that the Isles could trade Okposo or Grabner for a defensemen or more physical forward I'd do that and sign Parenteau.

Also, the coaching staff should show tape of Ullstrom and tell his forwards to bring it like he does.

I don't think P.A. is soft. I think he gives you more on that front than his size tells you he should. It's not like it's a lot but in a big game, I trust Parenteau to be more physically engaged and and into the game then Okposo and Grabner

Fair enough.......but KO and Grabner are signed already.....PA is not

Unllike Nino.. he is on the small side. He could use the extra year to develop... lift weights..etc. I think the thought process with Nino is He would be better served getting used to the speed of the game up here and they could watch his conditioning and coach him closely..etc. I am not saying I agree with that one bit.. but that was their thought process..."he can't learn any more in juniors.." I don't think it was a wasted year, but it certainly wasn't a great idea for the kid's confidence.

playing devil's advocate there has been times where not having a guy under their nose ended up costing their prospect in developement. (usually this was in college... they were not happy with coach.. Okposo at Minn.. ness.. etc. )

Him playing in juniors would have been a wasted year....it's a stupid rule, and it needs to be addressed, IMO. Bridgeport is where he should be.

Saying playing for pride and finally putting in a 60 min after 70+ games is garbage. Penguins missed playoff for mor than 4 years. But they made they drafted 1 or 2 every year. They got fleury, malkin, Crosby and staal.

While I love our picks. If isles drafted 1or2 in last 4 drafts. Instead of bailey, Tavares, niño, and strome.

Our team could have been stamkos or doughty, Tavares, hall/seguin, and nugent/Hopkins or landeskog.

So winless pointless games for pride is irrelevant. You want to play for pride, then come in from first game of season and do it.

As far as I'm concerned even though our record likely better, this season was bigger failure than last. We were healthy and basically had all our star players. If anything injuries help with exception of Montoya. DP, mottau would still be in lineup otherwise.

Unless strome wows everyone in preseason. He should be I n jrs another year. Niño should start in Bridgeport and play his way to big club like ullstrom and cizikas did.

If you ask me I would return those 2 guys to play at bridge as their impact is noticed. Sound tigers were undefeated before they left after jan 1st.

Only players felt was truly mistreated was Montoya. He is still only isles goalie with winning record. His stats were amongst the best in league before he got concussed. He got the shaft ever since.

Thats worse...

Instead, he could be playing 20+ minutes a night in junior....

We all know that Nino lost a year of development this year. He should have been in juniors. He shouldn't have sniffed the NHL this year. And if Nino was going to be forced onto the NHL roster by Snow the way that he was, he should have been playing more than 8 minutes a game with fourth line muckers like Reasoner, Pandolfo and Tim Wallace.

Hopefully, the Isles see the error of their decision with Nino and send him to Bridgeport next season to at least start there and get his game and confidence back.

the only reason he was on this team was because of the cheapness of wang and the need for his salary against the cap

At this point, Nino isn't "ruined". But, if the Isles insist on keeping him in the NHL he might become ruined. I think Nino would make significant progress in his development if he at least started next season in Bridgeport, got his game together in both ends of the ice and got his confidence back. There's nothing wrong with a guy earning his way onto the NHL squad with his play. Nobody should be given a roster spot because of where they were drafted.

I think with Bailey and Nino, Garth felt he needed to justify the picks so he rushed them along. Bailey was a reach-pick and it was a selection questioned by lots of hockey people. So Garth put him on the NHL roster at 18. Granted, that Isles team was one of the worst ever, there really wasn't anybody better than Bailey to put on the team ahead of him, but Bailey definitely could have used another year of junior. With Nino, he needed the salary and thought one year of junior after being drafted was enough when it clearly wasn't.

I'm an advocate of the slow, steady approach to developing prospects. With guys like JT, there's no reason to go slow. They're ready right away. But few players are ready to make that jump from Jr or college right to the NHL. That's why I'm really not excited about the idea of Strome on the Isles next year.

I agree that there are players that can make the jump right from the draft to the NHL and some that take time to develop and should not be rushed. Nino was done with juniors and cou ldn't play in the AHL bcs of his age, I understand having him play in the NHL but to use (or misuse rather) a young player the way he was by Snow/Capuano was absurd. Having him play on that line with as little minutes as he was given could've only had a negative effect on his development.
