As am I. The kids size bothers me but hey nothings stopping him from one day becoming a player like Brian Campbell even thou he plays a more aggressive game than BC.

Hope he keeps playing like he has been and keeps developing well next season in Bridgeport. a few of the people I've talked to about the kid said he was gonna be a good late bloomer to have and he has some amazing hockey sense. I also remember reading about how the red wings prospect camp was a great experience for him (how wouldn't it be for any kid) just hope he feels the same way after getting a taste of the Wang circus

hopefully we can hide him in bport away from the circus....he's 6'0 so he will be fine size wise

I am... When he signed that Deal he was Elite... I think the Pen was poisoned but he was Elite when he signed the dotted line. One of best Glove hands I have ever seen. INsane reflexes... and if he did not do stupid things with the Puck he would have been THAT MUCH better..
- niteislander

He did nothing to justify the adjective elite. Anyone of his "highlight" real saves were a direct result of one of his many miscues.

Interesting article in Fourth Period.com about the Carolina Hurricanes:

The Carolina Hurricanes are expected to be strong bidders for pending unrestricted free agents Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, which was first reported last night on TSN's Insider Trading segment.
The Canes believe that they are close to becoming a Stanley Cup contender and are looking to add a star winger to play alongside captain Eric Staal and would also consider a top defenseman.

................................................................................................................................ Assuming both players become unrestricted free agents comes July 1; the Hurricanes are likely to go hard for Parise of the New Jersey Devils and are also expected to have significant interest in Suter of the Nashville Predators.
The Canes' plan to potentially acquire this year's top two UFAs might surprise many who would deem the organization as a budget team, however, ownership is on board for the right additions.

Meanwhile, another top UFA could be targeted by the Hurricanes, as Anaheim Ducks second-round pick Justin Schultz has yet to agree to join the Ducks' lineup after his season ended with the University of Wisconsin.

According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, the fact that Schultz hasn't picked the option to sign with the Ducks most likely mean that the 21-year-old defenseman has chosen unrestricted free agency and could be added to the list of players the Hurricanes will attempt to sign in the summer.

Schultz is the best prospect in the league playing in college. Kinda surprised he wouldn't want to play for the Ducks, it's not like they're the Blue Jackets. He'll get big money if he blows off the Ducks.

Yeah, I'm the guy that feels they should stay in Nassau and that Wang should be trying to find a way to pay for and own the arena himself but since I know that won't happen, I'd rather see them in Brooklyn over Queens. jmo

Really looking forward to seeing how the Barclays looks for an NHL game. When the games over I'm walking all over to get a look at how the sightlines are from everywhere, security is gonna have to chase me outta there.

- Killer' Carlson

Heres my question? Originally, Wang only wanted the lighthouse project because of all the additional revenue, which he said was needed. He was opposed to just building a new arena. But, how is moving to Brooklyn, to an arena which is owned by someone else, going to make Wang money? Obviously he will make money on ticket sales, jerseys etc...........but he's not going to generate the revenue he originally wanted. Im confused as to the difference between moving to someone elses arena differs from just building a new coliseum? There would have been some subsidies, and over time it would have paid itself off.....

So during all this he was kicked off the team...........now what? Was he playing? The fact that the charges were dropped and this kid was thrown off the team is absurd. It reminds me of the Duke lacrosse players. Who knows what actually happened, but the fact that the charges were dropped speaks volumes.

Wang Lies, no more needs to be said. He wanted his mini city.

I get that it wouldn't be that easy to try to get nassau to sell the land to him and I also get that he wasn't for most of his time owning this team getting the cuts of the revenue % he should've been. The guy did walk into a bad situation but he could've done a few things to better them.

There is no way this team couldn't be very profitable with an arena he paid for, matter a fact that would be the most profitable way. but Wang doesn't wanna pony up the $400 million just for that. He wants more than that, just like his "old plainview" project. he didn't get what he wanted so he backs out and sells to someone else willing to build the smaller scaled back thing that's more than satisfied with that profit margin.

Because almost no college prospects ever do that. Kessel and Gregoire did it to us, but that's more likely because of the way the Islanders organization is perceived. The Ducks are a fine organization with a top notch young core of players. They're also not particularly deep on defense/defensive prospects, outside of Fowler and Visnovsky, so he would have almost definitely been able to step into a full-time NHL role. If it was only about the money every single college prospect would do it and nobody would draft college kids ever.

He had to cover the costs of building the arena with the Lighthouse. This one's already built. That'd be my guess, anyway. And it really all depends on the deal he can strike with Ratner. Maybe Ratner takes a majority ownership stake in the Isles if he's interested and Wang still gets some revenue without having to put up all the expenses, or maybe they allow Wang to share in revenues from other events there in exchange for booking all those dates there by bringing in the Isles. That's all just pure speculation on my part, but if there's enough motivation, they should be able to hammer out something that works for everyone.

He was warned that his partying would get him the boot, just so happens this was the way he chose to do it. I've heard from a few I know around there that this wasn't a rape but that it was something that him and a few of his friens were known to do... gettin drunk and knocking on girls doors where some would let him in and others wouldn't. Only thing this proved is that BU didn't have any control of the place and let kids get away with alot, nothing new BU was always known to be a party school. perhaps now they change that with the year they've had up there.

My guess since he still has other charges against him and has to be back in court on april 27th is he settles sometime before mid summer and gets slapped with something then signs with us and head to bridgeport and hopefully the kid learned to stop acting like an idiot and become a mature adult now. But he needs to learn to stay away from the bottle

And if the goaltenders gave up 25-30 less goals they'd be in a better place too. But realistically the "d" was morbid this year. The worst group on the team. The collective plus/minus and point totals from the "d" are terrible.

I'm not saying that the defense wasn't atrocious, just that the lack of scoring beyond the first line hurt this team more than the bad defense.

I think you answered your own question. Probably better for them to go for the money and hope an NHL career happens than not and have it flop I would think? You are right about our prospects I would think, I personally would bolt from the Islanders in their present state at the first chance I got.

You could also say that the D is so bad that they have to spend so much time in their own zone that they can't get as many scoring chances either

It all starts with the defense. It's the backbone of any good team. Boston won the cup last year with an absolutely anemic powerplay throughout the entire playoffs, because they're built from the back-end out. Our defense was hands down the most glaring problem with this team all year. Lack of secondary scoring was right up there, don't get me wrong, but our defense needs to be addressed more than anything else right now.

Its actually a toss up between the horrible defense that had absolutely no scoring to back up its atrocious defense, zero secondary scoring, zero phsical play from the team, and very little consistency in net most of the season. Take your pick, all four could be the reason individually or on their own

I didn't ask a question though. All I did was say I was surprised and back it up by saying it doesn't usually happen and is even less prevalent in prospects drafted by quality teams/organizations.

Regardless, the 3-year NCAA rule is awful. It puts pressure on NHL teams to try and pry their prospect out of their respective school before they can graduate, which puts unfair pressure on a kid to leave school early. It's likely getting changed in the new CBA next year.

On an unrelated note, Denver lost in the tournament just now but it was nice to see Gwozdecky have faith in Mayfield as a freshman to have him out there the entire final 1:20 or so, down a goal with the season on the line. Says a lot for Mayfield.

Edit: and Persson has a goal for Bridgeport tonight
