The "DiPietro out at the bar" stories here have been top notch. My favorite is still the "Ricky D don't want no problems" one.

Christophers in Huntington village. Acted like a 5 year old. At least he had a cab pick him up. I poop you not. They were playing the slap game. One other guy was with them as well. Didn't recognize him though.

if Nino were still in Jr's (where he should have been) we would have 4 in the top 75.

If the Isles held on to those two leads vs. the caps, they would be 3 points out right now. Throw in the Devils game if they got at least a point they would be even closer.

The team isn't as in terrible shape as it seems. Got to make improvements and hope that one of the other 4 teams in the division gets worse next year. I don't think 5 teams from one division have made the playoffs since the shootout was introduced.

Lots of areas they can easily improve on going into next year even with their current roster. That is certainly one of them. Hopefully they upgrade the roster as well.

I have to agree, this team is NOT as bad as it looked this season...

A-mac with his sophomore slump
too much time given to Rolston
sub par Streit season
Gremlin coming back down to earth
Frans playing out of place on the second line
Cappy being clueless

He was never an elite goalie. He was very inconsistent and had 2 nice runs. The 2nd half of the 04 season and the first half of the 06-07 season. Besides that, he was no better than average and he has been the worst goalie in the league since.

About 6 years ago, I was out in huntington village at a bar and watched DP and Komisarek (summer time) trade slaps to each others face. I knew it then that this guy was a complete idiot. I don't hate him per say, but everything about him being an Islander set this team back 12 years. milbury even traded Osgood so this idiot could play.

the Isles will not take a step forward until he is out of here.

I disagree.. I really hate DP arguments and am trying very hard not to get into another one...BUT.. he was an Elite goaltender. He had a winning record until very recently on some terrible teams. He was the Team USA goalie.. beat out Miller for it in 2004. He was an all star... and Played very well in the 10 playoff games he played for Isles.. the team was not good enough. DP was...

But no one here mentioned the word "elite"....... you did.
You are always the only one that brings up the word elite when DP is concerned... NO ONE is arguing that he wasnt an elite goalie.

I am... When he signed that Deal he was Elite... I think the Pen was poisoned but he was Elite when he signed the dotted line. One of best Glove hands I have ever seen. INsane reflexes... and if he did not do stupid things with the Puck he would have been THAT MUCH better..

I wrote that in 2004 and 2006 he played on a very high level. I just don't think he played on that very high level consistently to be considered an elite goalie. Even in 2006-2007 he was in the middle of the pack in statistics. I don't disagree that in 2004, he was the biggest reason they made the playoffs.

Complain about the defense all you want, and I'm not suggesting it couldn't have been a hell of a lot better but consider this: The Islanders are currently 13 points behind 7th place Ottawa. They have given up 218 goals, only 4 more than the Senators but have scored 174 goals, 47 fewer. Again, I know the Islanders current defense is terrible, but where would this team be if they had scored, say, even 25 - 30 more goals?

I never loved the guy because I thought his personality was such a negative even when he was playing very well. Those locker rooms after the 2002 season were a mess. Not saying he was the reason for it, but he certainly didn't help it and maybe as the face of the franchise during that team, he needed to be better in that regard.

Im one of the biggest supporters of our often injured franchise goalie.. but I have to say he was never "elite" he had the potential, he was on the cusp but it was never reached, it was never realized.

Actually, he did not necessarily "beat out" Miller in 2006. Usually it's angry Sabres fans I point that out to. Ironically, it was Miller who was injured at the time rosters had to be finalized, and Waddell decided to play it safe by going with the healthy DiPietro. Full marks to DP for being on that team. I'm not trying to take anything away from him. But people who try to make it a head-to-head DP-Miller thing...that's not really the case.

I give DP an enormous amount of credit for 2006-07. Best player on that team, and .919 is a heck of a save %, especially considering he did not come out of the gate all that well that year. But "elite" is too strong a word. First of all, the numbers that year weren't top five (I don't think they were top 10, if I remember correctly EDIT...I stand corrected...he was 6th that year)...certainly not worthy of Vezina finalist. I think you should be a Vezina finalist at least one year in your career to be considered elite. Second, to be elite in this league, I think you have to be able to sustain a very high level of play for some period of time. DP had that one year. Everything else is fairly pedestrian, albeit due to injury. From 03-04 to 07-08...the years he played 50 or more games, it's .911, .900, .919, .902. Elite? I don't think so. If every goalie who had a dynamite year for a bad team was considered elite, we'd have to put Steve Mason in that category too, no?

I think the list I somehow pulled up eliminated anyone with under 40 games played? It has Backstrom, Mason, Brodeur, Luongo, Vokoun, DP, Emery, Giguere, Kipper, Lundqvist as the top-10.

could be fair though. Dubliewicz is on the list I pulled up somehow and he played 8 games. Maybe he played enough minutes to be counted ? I don't know. Either way it shows DP had a good year but certainly not elite caliber like you said.
