they did tht in columbus when jeff carter left everybod got jack johnson jeresy instead

Jeff Carter was there for about 5 months. DP has been an Islander for 12 years. has played over 300 games and did not always stink no matter what Kasperk thinks and says.

compared to the players on the team, pa is one of the more tough guys. if comparing to the rest of the league, he is soft.

you cant say just because he is physically more engaging compared to KO and MG therefore he is tough....thats like trying to decide who is the richest between 3 homeless guys

He was teh face for like 3 years till his body gave out on him. It was sad but I disliked DP from teh moment his name was mentioned at the draft. I am glad to see that he turned out to be a bust. I knew it from teh get go

315 games is a lot of NHL games. He earned the contract he got.. just did not come close to living up to the contract.

no.. b/c DP never did anything wrong. He got injured... kept trying to rehab and got injured again... 5 or 6 surgeries later he was still trying to come back. He killed the islanders but unlike Kasperko I can't hate the man for injuries and the Islanders would never do anything that disrespectful to a guy who was the face of the franchise for a while.

Plus he's not leaving the team, he'll be in camp.

plus if they did do it wouldnt be for a player that will last 1 year...maybe

having said that, they wont do it but it would cost MONEY to be done...wang wouldnt even touch that idea.

DP = irrelevant. I hope and believe that this summer DP will either be bought out or in September he will be placed on waivers and sent to Bridgeport after he clears. Think positive thoughts and good things happen, right?...

Jethro you are totally correct. If DP was coming back to play next year there would be no way the Islanders sign Nabby and no way Nabby would want to stay. Nabby being signed is a statement that atrocity known as DP is done, dead, destroyed, the end.

I dont know my friend I think he even stunk in those games. Never won a playoff series I dont even know if he was a playoff game. Just was not a good high pressure goaltender and the sport did not destroy his body DP destroyed his body

Unless he is retiring, he will be in camp.. its the only way he will not be a part of this franchise (as a player)

A part of the franchise, not necessarily a part of the Islanders. They can give him the Redden treatment if they don't want to buy him out and waive him then send him to B-port. If they're have to pay him, might as well have his salary come off the books (problematic for a team that struggles to hit the salary floor) but more importantly, clear space on the roster for the future, Poulin or Nilsson.

Thing is the team does not want his salary off the books, they NEED it on the books.

And yes he can be sent through waivers down to Bridgeport, but regardless he will be in camp, he will be trying out for a spot on the roster. (unless he retires)

Look for new CBA to have a clause like the last CBA allowing a team to get rid of one bad contract. IF you remember this clause was in place at the last CBA and the ISles could have used it to buy out Yashin with out a penalty, and dcided not too. IF this is offered this summer in the new CBA the Isles have to buy out DP with out having a cap hit for the next 22 years.

I remember reading somewhere with wang being a business man, he is against paying people for nothing (buyouts)
Wang was against the Yashin buyout for this reason

So those of you who think Wang will buy out DP and then spend more money to reach the cap floor... It doesn't seem likely

This is Wang we are talking about

IF he does not want to be crucified then he will. There is no reason at all for DP to be on this team next year. There is no reason at all that he should even be around

ya but isnt DP doing nothing right now??

i happen to agree with the fact that wang needs to pay someone to reach the floor and makes no sense to pay to get rid of him and then pay someone else to hit the floor but at the same time i dont think he wont do it because he doesnt want to pay someone for nothing....DP and yashin arent exactly doing something to warrant them getting paid.

Do you think Wang cares if you crucify him?? What more can anyone say about the man that hasn't been said already??

What makes you think that he is going to buyout a player at a huge payout... then have to make up that 4+ million a year on the payroll all the while losing money every year already?? Its easy for everyone here to say.. "ohh just buy him out" but its not our money.. its his & he's not going to piss it away just to make the fans or a few internet GMs happy.

Woah I am not saying buy out the clown throw the doof on waivers. No one in there right mind will take him and if they do then we are geniuses. Then when no one takes him bury him in the AHL. Bring up Poulin and Nillson through out the year and there you go problem fix.

That does lead to one major problem though those kids learning from DP down in the aHL. He will teach them how not to handle the puck give up soft goals and blame the defense when they do give up a goal

At this point, Nino isn't "ruined". But, if the Isles insist on keeping him in the NHL he might become ruined. I think Nino would make significant progress in his development if he at least started next season in Bridgeport, got his game together in both ends of the ice and got his confidence back. There's nothing wrong with a guy earning his way onto the NHL squad with his play. Nobody should be given a roster spot because of where they were drafted.

I think with Bailey and Nino, Garth felt he needed to justify the picks so he rushed them along. Bailey was a reach-pick and it was a selection questioned by lots of hockey people. So Garth put him on the NHL roster at 18. Granted, that Isles team was one of the worst ever, there really wasn't anybody better than Bailey to put on the team ahead of him, but Bailey definitely could have used another year of junior. With Nino, he needed the salary and thought one year of junior after being drafted was enough when it clearly wasn't.

I'm an advocate of the slow, steady approach to developing prospects. With guys like JT, there's no reason to go slow. They're ready right away. But few players are ready to make that jump from Jr or college right to the NHL. That's why I'm really not excited about the idea of Strome on the Isles next year.

- Jethro09

David Ullstrom probably is a perfect example. 2 years ago he was considered toast and now he looks like he could be a nice NHL player.
