Agreed on its not a huge gap. Probably will see both players at some point.

If they last through the first round, this will probably be the case. The playoffs never come without tolls on the roster.

I just trust Lilja a little bit more. Not that he's great, but he's been there before.
- Jsaquella

Understood. No need to turn this into a war a la "Bob V. Bryz 2011-2012!"

Not me. I want him thrown into the fire to see what we really have. Im still not treating this playoffs as a cup run. They will be setup for that starting next year. I want to see his game in the playoffs and see if he holds up
- Just5

You put your best team on the ice for the playoffs. Every team who get's in has a shot at it. It's not the time to throw a Rookie into the fire just to see what he's got. That the complete wrong approach. If Gustafsson is going to be an NHL full time defenseman, which I have some doubts of, he'll get his chance, in future years. Right now he's in the mix, and I'm sure he'll get his time.

I think he will do well. You got 5 other rookies that will be thrown in. Overall I like his skill set over liljas gelling with the other dmen. You have 3 puck movers on gusty, timonen, Carle. 3 stay guys in kubina, coburn, and grossman
- Just5

Gustafsson isn't a good enough puck mover to put him in the lineup over Lilja in my opinion right now.

The concerns I have with Gus in the playoffs is that I have seen him caught watching the play at times and he gets a little "hot potatoey"Both are minor, rookie growing pain type things, but could be dangerous in the playoffs.
- Jsaquella

I have real concerns with Gustafsson also. I think in a playoff setting he's going to be over matched. I don't like his size. And he's not good enough with the puck, at least yet to make up for it.

Timonen, Carle, Grossmann, Coburn, Kubina and Lilja should be the playoff defenseman until injury occurs.

In a nutshell, yeah. He's been about as good as I expected, and my expectations weren't high. It hasn't been all bad, by any stretch. But I'd rather him be the 8th defenseman instead of 7th

IMHO Gustafsson has contributed more to the team this year and has earned his spot on the playoff roster.

He has earned a spot on the playoff roster. Just due to the fact that there are injuries. But how you come to the conclusion and measure that he has contributed more, is lost on me. How are you measuring that?

You want size and experience on the 3rd pair for the playoffs. Gustafsson provides neither. And he's average at best in other areas such as handling the puck and providing offense from the back end. Lilja is the better defender. I think that was made clear with the Flyers sending Gustafsson down.

I measure it by watching the game. Watching him when he was paired with Carle. They were a very solid pairing. Here's to hoping Lilja steps his game up for the playoffs. He should be fresh.

You and I don't see eye to eye on the pairings either. If Kubina is fully healthy I see him as the guy that should be slotted in the top 4 on this team. If anything have Grossman on the 3rd pairing. Good problem to have.

Grossmann has been arguably their best defensive defenseman since he's been here. It would make zero sense to put him on the 3rd pair. Grossmann is clearly better then Kubina. Watching the game, it's obvious that although Gustafsson shows some promise, he's not one of the best 6 defenseman at this point.

Didn't like Gustafsson paired with Carle at all.
